LinkedIn's AI Content feature has launched

LinkedIn has launched it's own AI content feature.

This has been talked about for months, but it has finally arrived...for those who have a subscription.

It isn't fully rolled out yet, but some of my client's accounts have it right now, others don't.

Here is what you need to know.

Firstly, the AI is built directly into posts. When you click to write a post, the AI tool will show as an option.

Once you click the AI Drafting tool, it loads a box where it asks you to input a minimum of 30 words.

Next you write up your brief of what you want to talk about....

Once you've written that you can create your draft.

Is LinkedIn's Ai Content Draft tool a good thing?

I honestly have mixed feelings about integrating AI directly into post creation. I think it will increase the volume of AI content (and annoyingly AI comments) which has exploded over the last 6 months.

I think it's a useful tool for people who really want to share something but struggle to put it together, but I know there will be some gurus out there who will teach people to share content 'on autopilot' which will clog up the feeds.

We are going to see an increase in content which offers advice and commentary coming from people who have no experience or expertise - they are just leveraging the AI. We'll also see some people gaining confidence and deciding to post.

It will be a double edged sword.

The risk is the platform is overloaded with generic and AI driven content. That in turn takes a share of impressions and disillusions existing posters and creators. The opportunity is it might make it easier for people who current share little to nothing.

LinkedIn's content problem

LinkedIn is jumping on this AI wave for an obvious reason. It may solve the content problem LinkedIn has had for more than a decade. A content production problem. Despite having 940m users, in the last 30 days only 2.6% posted.

If LinkedIn wants to keep the platform thriving as a space for professionals, it needs more content....but it needs more relevant content

Personal content is great and helps build relationships, but if LinkedIn shifts too close to being Facebook or Instagram it will lose its big advantage, it's B2B subscribers.

Over the coming years we will see more experiments to try and drive content, we've seen it before with Stories and we are seeing it now with AI. Will the AI drafting tool be good or bad for LinkedIn?

Time will tell.

What do you think, is this a good move?

I haven’t tried this feature yet but I understand the purpose of LinkedIn with it. I stick to creating my own content and sharing my own perspectives and thoughts beyond advice as an expert. I aim to share knowledge, and my real-life experiences and help others to grow their marketing, branding, and content strategies. I use ChatGPT and other LLM chatbots as my assistant for research, structuring my draft concepts and analyzing them or fine-tuning the styling, etc. If you ask me Dean Seddon, I don't believe in the legacy of the fully AI-generated “content factories” but rather in vocalizing one’s thoughts in an authentic way and generating content with originality an uniqueness.

Dean Seddon, I've enjoyed the AI platforms which have enabled me to produce extensive and more insightful posts. I've not seen the AI when I write a post yet here on LinkedIn, but I'm sure it will come soon. BTW, I have the Premium Subscription with LinkedIn.

Only 2.6% have posted in the last 30 days. Let’s see how that figure is impacted. I’m going to bet it’s less than you think…

I was waiting for LinkedIn to announce their own AI ))) Having spoke to fellow IT gurus I’ve learnt that ChatGPT becomes not so intelligent lately. They blame us users for making Chat learn stupid things ))) Other hand, we can be safe: no terminator is coming)))
