The List Issue 3: The made in EU RES paradox
What is the paradox you ask? Although, according to Eurostat, the countries that use the most renewable energy are in the north, those that participate in the most RES focused EU funded projects, are in the South.
To be precise, the countries that use the most renewable energy are Sweden, Finland and Latvia. Sweden first by far, with 63 percent of its energy coming from RES.
On the other hand, according to Kaila.eu, the countries that participate in the most RES focused EU funded projects are Spain, Italy and France. And Greece is coming in close too.
So, in a way the South is trying to find solutions to production and integration of renewable energy sources, but does not use them quite yet. Or at least as much as the North does.
Regardless, about a fifth of the energy used in the union in 2021 was produced by renewables. With solar, wind and friends contributing 21.8 per cent to EU’s total energy consumption.
Not bad, but not quite there yet either. Renewable Energy Sources is the overall theme for this issue, in case you missed the hint in this intro.
