The Little Girl Who Wasn't Heard - A Christmas Story of Finding Purpose

The Little Girl Who Wasn't Heard - A Christmas Story of Finding Purpose

As we approach the festive season, I've been reflecting on the journey that led me to founding Full Circle CI and our work in the EV charging sector. Perhaps surprisingly, this story begins during my childhood.

I vividly remember being seven years old, bursting with thoughts and ideas while the adults chatted. Like many neurodivergent children, I had so much to share and so many connections I wanted to make. But I was met with that all-too-familiar phrase: "The adults are talking." I can still feel that mixture of frustration, confusion, and determination as I thought to myself, "One day, I'll have something to say, and people will listen."

Looking back now, I understand my mum better: another neurospicy soul who was probably trying to navigate social expectations herself. Since receiving my ADHD diagnosis in March 2023, I've invested significant time in understanding myself more deeply. This journey of self-discovery has allowed me to look back at that seven-year-old version of me with compassion and understanding.

Now, I can confidently say that I didn't do anything wrong; it was simply how my wonderfully different brain works. Those "interruptions" weren't disruptions; they were manifestations of the creativity and unique perspectives that neurodivergent minds bring to the world. That moment planted a seed that would grow into something far bigger than my seven-year-old self could have imagined.

That's why continuous improvement consulting isn't just a career for me; it might sound corny, but it's a calling. Whenever I work with a company, I'm driven by the fundamental belief that every voice matters and that sometimes, the most valuable insights come from unexpected places. I've built my entire approach around ensuring that everyone - from the CEO to the newest team member - has the opportunity to contribute to positive change.

In the EV charging sector, this approach has proven particularly powerful. The challenges we face in building a reliable, accessible charging infrastructure aren't just technical; they're human. They require us to listen to every stakeholder, to understand the subtle pain points that might be overlooked, and to build solutions that truly serve everyone.

I've found that my neurodivergent traits, my ability to tune into the smallest issues, to make unexpected connections, and to feel the deep empathy that guides me to the heart of a problem aren't weaknesses at all. They're my superpowers. When companies allow me to guide them through incremental changes, we create lasting improvements that build confidence and momentum. These small wins add up to significant transformations, all while maintaining the trust and engagement of everyone involved.

As I look back this Christmas, I'm grateful to every organisation that has trusted Full Circle CI to be part of their journey. To those we've worked with and those we're yet to meet, thank you for allowing us to contribute to the future of electric mobility. Your willingness to embrace change, to listen to every voice, and to build better systems together gives me hope for the future we're creating.

That seven-year-old girl with so much to say would be proud to see how her determination to be heard has transformed into a mission to help others find their voice. As we close this year and look toward the next, I'm more committed than ever to ensuring that in the world of EV charging infrastructure, every voice contributes to our shared success.

As I write this, I must also express my heartfelt gratitude to the amazing women who have shared and are still sharing this neurospicy journey with me. Your friendship, understanding, and shared experiences have been invaluable. A special thank you to my ADHD coach, Michelle Pritchard , who has guided me to a place where I can truly appreciate how understanding and embracing my neurodivergence has made me not just a better consultant but a more complete person. Your support has been transformative in helping me recognise these traits as strengths rather than challenges.

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas filled with meaningful conversations and positive change.

Thanks for reading.

We all work so much better when we find the things we love doing- which chime closely with our purpose and our drives. At that point work stops feeling like it’s ‘work’ and just becomes a part of what we do and who we are. It’s a lovely point to reach so well done for finding yours Liz.
