LOCAL RADIO’S SURVIVAL GUIDE

LOCAL RADIO’S SURVIVAL GUIDE

Today’s radio landscape is filled with regional and national shows. Great talent who’ve earned a bigger platform. But the regional/national shows just can’t resonate about your community in the ways that you can. Let’s dive into this week’s Beyond The 615 Column, article # 98.

Take a hard look at your local radio show. Does it sound like you actually live in the community you serve? By the way, traffic and weather together on the tens is not what I’m talking about. Be intentionally local like product placements in TV shows and movies.

LOCAL RADIO’S SURVIVAL GUIDE

1. Drop in as many local references as you can (streets, stores, landmarks).

2. Talk about what matters locally TODAY in a unique and compelling way.

3. Consider a new (fun or meaningful) benchmark that champions or highlights something or someone local.

HERES THE TAKEAWAY

A crappy, local radio show still loses against a regional/national show with great talent and content. But, infusing local is yet another tool for your on-air tool belt… a competitive difference that can build camaraderie and connection.
