Looking for a job in another country? Start with these tips

January is usually a high time for job search, and the past month was no different. While a new year is a time for reflections and making new resolutions (and resumes), the start of this year comes with exceptional challenges for jobseekers with news of major layoffs and a rising cost of living. Whether urgent or not, hopefully you’ll find the resources below helpful in your journey towards your new opportunity.

Want to relocate? Research

If you’re looking for an opportunity in another country, there’s a lot of research that you should be doing. Starting with networking, researching the market you want to move to, and looking into resources that would make the move easier for you and your family.

Career coach Amanda Davies shares some helpful pointers below, have a look:

The tips above are a part of a longer, previously live chat with Amanda and Kim Araman , two LinkedIn Top Voices in Careers and Job Search, in which they shared their best practices on how job seekers can stand out to employers in today’s job market. Topics we discussed included:

  • Tips on resume formatting and sectioning; turns out you don’t actually need to include every single thing you’ve ever done in your career since high school.
  • Why applying to every single open role you see is not a good strategy, even if it looks like the solution to finding a job in a short time, as it quickly leads to burnout. It also becomes clear to potential employers that you’re not the right fit.
  • Self-reflection is important before starting this journey; what are you actually good at, how can you highlight these strengths and focus your efforts.

Great tips Salma Altantawy, I changed countries and industries and help clients land and manifest their dream job. What works well for me and my clients is a 3 step process that involves removing the beliefs and blocks that hold them back from getting hired.
