Looking for pitches! Open call for freelance podcasters

Europe Talks Back, a podcast uncovering impactful stories across the continent, is taking pitches from freelance podcasters.

We are looking for authentic and raw stories to travel around the continent to ensure excellent reporting on the ground. We aim to provide European Millennials and Gen-Zers with informative and engaging podcasts.

Do you have a story to tell and experience in podcast production? Pitch it to us!

What we are looking for in your pitch

Europe Talks Back is a narrative podcast, an exercise of informative storytelling. Each episode covers a different topic focusing on one individual story, which is introduced by the hand of one single interviewee.

Therefore, there are three main elements that your pitch should include: what, who, and where. Send your topic highlighting what you want to cover on the ground, the person you want to interview (in English) and where will you record the interview. Here, producing a high-quality interview is as important as recording sounds on the ground so send as many details as possible.

All topics are welcome, but we will choose four stories that fit into the following themes:

  •  Youth, Mental Health and social media
  •  Historical Reckonings
  •  Climate emergency
  •  Communities

But please, take them as an inspiration. We will select four extra topics from your ideas!

Deadline for pitches is 16 August 2023.

What we will expect from you

You will need to produce a 20-minute-long episode based on a single interview, wrapped in a narration read by our host. Therefore, we expect you to deliver:

  •  Several .wav recording files: one for the interview collected on the ground plus sound bites related to the physical context in which the story takes place. A technical guide on how to record will be shared with you.
  •  A draft script for the episode in English. A template will be shared with you.
  •  Although your voice won’t be on the podcast, our producer will invite you for an interview to produce a behind-the-scenes episode. This will be done remotely. You will need to be available for a 20 minutes long online recording.

What you can expect from us

  •  Freelancers will be paid 300 euros per episode, all charges included.
  •  Your story will become an episode of Europe Talks Back, an EU-funded project, coproduced by Sphera Network and Europod.
  •  You will be able to join Europod’s network of independent podcasters.
