The Lost Art of Real Connections: Are We Becoming Too Busy with Nothing?
There was a time when reaching out to friends and family was more than just a formality. Back then, birthdays, weddings, and celebrations were more than calendar dates—they were heartfelt occasions for connection. We travelled distances, carried boxes of sweets, and shared a personal word along with the invitation. Picking up the phone wasn’t an option; it was instinctual. We called each other, asked about each other’s well-being, and celebrated the moments that mattered, together.
Today, however, things are changing—perhaps more quickly than we realize. A birthday wish now means a quick WhatsApp message or a forwarded quote. Wedding invitations are just another notification ping. Friends and family are still out there, but the warmth of genuine connection feels faded, replaced by a superficial scroll through feeds, an emoji reaction, or a two-second text. We may feel connected online, but are we truly connected where it counts?
And I ask myself—and each one of you—are we just "busy with nothing?" Are we teaching our future generations that convenience is a substitute for care?
If you resonate with this, I would like to remind you to pick up the phone, to visit, to check in without a reason. Let’s bring back the authenticity of connections, the power of actually knowing what’s happening in each other’s lives—not through filtered photos, but through real conversations.
Before we drift further away, let’s bring back humanity and how we connect. This week, reach out to someone without an agenda. Ask how they're doing. Make that call. Rediscover the joy of true, lasting connections. Let’s show the generations to come that we value people, not just profiles.
Let’s keep the spark of real connection alive.
