Lets make a positive frame of mind first then shall discuss about all....
- "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." – Helen Keller
- "Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships." – Michael Jordan
- "Teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability." – Patrick Lencioni
- "It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed." – Napolean Hill
- "If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else." – Booker T. Washington
- "None of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful." – Mother Teresa
But here I am going to narrate about the team , the subordinates who helps you to achieve your dreams and visions . In many case specially you have hired people with best qualifications and you found them not at all aligned to your goal & visions then you start realizing that the team is not good . Then .....
What makes a subordinates valuable to a Leader/Boss ?
- Flexible • Interesting to chat with • A good Listener • Provides alternative possibilities to questions • Keeps the ball in play, doesn’t drop the ball • Does the work, keeps his commitments, goes beyond • Reminds the boss ahead of a deadline • Serves without being servile.
Lets see the different types of Subordinates in a typical Organisations whether it is PSU/Large Corporate / Smaller ones
- Bureaucratic Subordinate : Delegate up in decision making to his boss to safeguard himself always and play by SOP / Rule book always .
- Excuse Giving Subordinate : He has perfect answers for "not doing the work". He/She never takes the entire responsibility or ownership either takes a small part of work to showcase that she/she is involved .
- Limelight Seeker Subordinate : He/she works and makes mountains of everything to show him/her that she is busy and working for the company.He/she does job as long as there is tangible benefit for him /her .
- Rule Breaker Subordinates : She/he always breaks the rule , don't seek approval of seniors , arrange "Jugad" , always works on cutting corners . He/she is very dangerous as when he/she will leave the company there will be more surprises , so needs to be very careful .
- The Work Shirker Subordinate : This is an employee seems to be smart but she/he is not . She/he tries to take leaves whenever possible and consumes all leaves of the organisation . She/he does not work to his/her potential and has an ambition beyond potential .
- The Hypersensitive Subordinate: Every new challenge is seen to be a thread for him/her. He/she complains first to others and pull others down . In recent time I had an employee of this kind and we had to ask him to leave as he was the "Negativity King" in the team.
- The Boss Managing Subordinates : He/she knows how to manage his/her Boss and his/her needs.He/she always tries to put others down in order to seen best in front of the Boss .
- The Company Subordinates : Works diligently for the company . She/he doesn't need any reminders or follow up for his/her work .
Every person is a subordinate to someone, including a CEO who is a subordinate to the board, think of how you might be coming across as a subordinate, not too late to change !
This is an view as per an lecture attended by an Ex-CEO of PEPSICO and motivated to share with you all .
