Lunchtime Chronicles: The Intern Fiasco; Ep.3

The cafeteria at TechChem Industries was bustling as usual, and Priya and Neha’s corner table was already crowded with eager listeners. Everyone knew that the best part of lunch was hearing the latest hilarious gossip from the dynamic duo. Today, the anticipation was palpable as Neha leaned forward, ready to kick off another uproarious tale.

Neha’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “So, has anyone heard about the latest intern, Arjun?”

Priya chuckled, shaking her head. “Oh, this one is too good. You all know how our interns can sometimes be a bit... enthusiastic, right?”

The group nodded, familiar with the overzealous nature of new interns eager to make a good impression.

Neha continued, “Arjun joined the team last week, and he’s super keen to show he can handle everything. Yesterday, he was assigned to help with a critical experiment involving some very delicate reagents.”

Priya took over, setting the scene. “So, there he is, meticulously following the protocol. Everything’s going smoothly until he gets to the part where he has to measure out a tiny amount of a very potent catalyst.”

Neha’s grin widened. “Instead of using the micro-pipette, Arjun decides to eyeball it. He thinks, ‘How hard can it be?’”

The table erupted in gasps and laughter, imagining the impending disaster. Priya added, “So, he adds what he thinks is the right amount, and almost immediately, the solution starts bubbling violently. It’s like a science fair volcano on steroids.”

Neha laughed, “And then, just as the froth starts spilling over the beaker, who walks in but Dr. Nair. You know how she is about lab precision.”

Priya nodded, “Dr. Nair takes one look at the mess and asks, ‘Arjun, did you use the micro-pipette for this?’ And Arjun, bless him, tries to cover up and says, ‘Of course, Dr. Nair!’”

Neha shook her head, barely containing her laughter. “Dr. Nair just looks at him, raises an eyebrow, and says, ‘Then why is there a pipette still in its wrapper on your bench?’”

The table burst into hysterical laughter, picturing the scene. Priya continued, “Arjun’s face went from confident to completely sheepish in about two seconds. Dr. Nair made him redo the entire experiment under her watchful eye.”

Neha added, “And the best part? As he’s cleaning up the mess, Arjun looks at Dr. Nair and says, ‘I guess I’ll stick to the instructions from now on.’ Dr. Nair just sighed and said, ‘Yes, that would be wise.’”

The laughter around the table was infectious, and even those who hadn’t known about the incident couldn’t help but join in. Priya and Neha’s storytelling had a way of bringing everyone together, turning everyday office mishaps into unforgettable comedy.

Priya glanced at her watch. “Alright, folks, one more quick story before we have to get back. This one’s about Sarita in the synthesis lab.”

Neha leaned in, her grin widening. “Oh, Sarita! So, she’s working late one night on a synthesis reaction. She’s been at it for hours, and she’s practically sleepwalking through the procedure.”

Priya continued, “She gets to the part where she’s supposed to add a drop of catalyst. Instead, in her sleepy haze, she grabs the wrong bottle and adds a few drops of a completely different substance.”

Neha’s eyes twinkled with mirth. “The reaction goes haywire, and there’s this loud pop, followed by a plume of bright pink smoke. Sarita freaks out, thinking she’s created some toxic gas.”

Priya added, “She runs out of the lab, sets off the emergency alarm, and the entire building has to be evacuated. Everyone’s standing outside in their lab coats and pajamas, wondering what’s going on.”

Neha laughed, “And then, the safety team investigates and finds out it’s just harmless food coloring. Sarita had accidentally grabbed a bottle from the break room that was mislabeled and left in the lab by mistake.”

The table was in stitches, imagining the chaos and the sight of their colleagues in pajamas. Priya concluded, “Sarita was mortified, but at least we all got an unexpected fire drill practice.”

As the bell signaling the end of lunch rang, the group reluctantly began to disperse, still chuckling at the day’s stories. Neha winked at Priya, satisfaction gleaming in her eyes. “Ready for more tomorrow?”

Priya grinned, nodding. “You know it.”

With that, they headed back to their labs, their spirits lifted by the shared laughter and camaraderie, already looking forward to the next installment of their lunchtime chronicles.
