The company's strategic investments in generative AI, proprietary technologies, and on-device processing capabilities signify a pivotal shift in its approach, aiming to elevate Siri's capabilities and introduce ground breaking AI features in iOS 18. Long overdue and frankly Apple has been sleeping at the wheel in my humble opinion.

Oculus & Anduril Founder Palmer Luckey Explains Why Founders Need to “Make Themselves Obsolete”

Palmer Luckey, the founder of Oculus and Anduril, shares a crucial lesson for entrepreneurs: the imperative of making oneself obsolete within their own company. Reflecting on his experience at Oculus, Luckey acknowledges his initial misconception of being indispensable due to his diverse skill set. This is easier said than done and when I watched this it resonated.

By relinquishing their grip on specific tasks and fostering a team of experts, founders can propel their companies towards sustainable growth and innovation.

Palmer Luckey explains why founders need to “make themselves obsolete”.

Once you start scaling your company, Palmer advises founders:

“You have to make it your goal to make yourself obsolete, even at the things you like doing. And that was really tough for me at Oculus because I realized I was basically playing house. I was sitting around doing things that way better people could be doing faster, more effectively.”

Steve Jobs said It best, Start with the Customer Experience

Man, I really miss Steve. In 1997, during Apple's World Wide Developers Conference, Steve Jobs faced a moment that exemplified his remarkable leadership and resilience. After returning to the company he co-founded, Jobs found himself on stage facing a pointed insult from an audience member. Despite the initial laughter, Jobs remained composed as the individual questioned his knowledge and contributions. Instead of reacting defensively, Jobs seized the opportunity to deliver a profound response, gracefully addressing the critique while reaffirming his vision for the company. In retrospect, we can see just how clear and robust his vision was.

When mentioned planning Apple’s future, he emphasised that: "And as we have tried to come up with a strategy and a vision for Apple, it started with 'What incredible benefits can we give to the customer? Where can we take the customer?' Not starting with 'Let’s sit down with the engineers and figure out what awesome technology we have and then how are we going to market that?' And I think that’s the right path to take."

Powerful stuff and a great takeaway for anyone trying to leverage all the tech available today to unlock innovation.
