Make a Lasting Impression

They Say first impressions last. And they’d be right. According to science we form our opinions of someone in the first 0.9 seconds. We do this based on the shapes we see, especially those of the face.

So, it follows that with a standout headshot, you’re going to make a powerful and lasting impression online - whether it’s to get that dream job, win that role, or simply raise your profile.

As part of the headshot crew, I’m one of a team of worldwide experts who’re equipped to help you stand out and get noticed.

Read on to find out how.

Who are the Headshot Crew?

Put together by Peter Hurley (Named one of the top ten living photographers), we’re a global network of specialist photographers trained by Peter, in the art of the headshot.

Putting your best face forward

Your headshot session is set up to show the best of you. The most authentic and confident version of you. This is done by using simple techniques designed to draw out more human expressions, which will still capture the imagination.

With years of perfecting these techniques, I understand that not everyone is comfortable or confident coming into a session, but I’ll talk you through the steps so you become empowered to share your personality. This means you’ll truly be putting your best face forward.

What happens at “The Portfolio Shoot” After an initial consultation, which isn’t strictly necessary if you’d rather get straight into it, you’ll come to my studio for the session. I’ll have all the right equiptment and lighting already set up, and we’ll start to take a series of shots.

There’ll be a minimum of 3 looks but ideally I’ll shoot 4-6. This will give you a nice range to use for various marketing purposes. Rather than just get you to do classic poses, my aim is to make you forget you’re infront of the camera. This means you’ll end up looking more like the real you, the version your friends and family know.

Example:

Asheena is a successful working model. In the first image she is using one of her poses.

Then she comes to life and you get a sense of who she is behind the poses.

I’ll judge the maximum amount of looks on the day, depending on your needs and comfort levels. But I’ll always keep shooting until we have looks covered.

** Please note that we’ll have less time available for

“The Defining Moment” and “The Platinum” sessions, so the amount of looks are limited for these but the same techniques will apply.

Style of Shots

I always shoot in landscape format (horizontally) as this allows for maximum real estate. Plus, I also crop out the very tops of your head in order to focus more on your facial expression.

However, if you are looking for anything in a portrait or a specific angle, then it’s not a problem to do this on the day.

What should I wear?

Clothing is important, as it should complement, rather than compete with your look. It is also imperative to wear something that makes you feel good. Remember, you’re in charge, so you need to feel your best to look your best. As a guide, here’s what I’d recommend:

-Bring 5-10 options with you

-Shirts, tops, knitwear, jackets, dresses all work well

-Avoid wearing anything seasonal or heavy patterns

Other Enhancements?

Glasses: If you wear glasses, and want to be shot in a specific pair, then I’d ask you remove the lenses for for the shoot. I also have a selection of frames if you want to try some on the day.

Hair & Make up: With make up, I’d ask that you come in with it already applied, just like how you’d present yourself for an interview, or an audition. I don’t usually have a Make Up Artist at hand, but if you give me enough time and they’re available, we can agree a price for one prior to the shoot.

Facial hair: If you wear stubble, that’s no problem! If you want to shoot clean shaven too, bring a razor along so we can shoot that too.

And when we’re done?

After we do each look, I’ll take you through a selection of the shots, and then agree on which represent you. This allows for any additional shots, and means you’ll know exacly what you’re working with when you leave that day.

The whole process for “The Portfolio” session can take around 3 hours. - so please do allow for that time, incase you’d like to go back and do one final shot at the end.

Adding the finishing touches

Once you’ve chosen your shots, I’ll begin retouching them. I use a signature style here, to keep your look as natural as possible - it’s transient marks only. I’ll then liaise with you through email/phone until you’re happy with the final photos, all ready to upload.

Impressed yet?

I hope so, but I’m sure your clients are going to be.

Testimonials:

When i arrived for the photoshoot, I was immediately made feel welcome. And soon enough I realised I was in good company. They’re easily the best headshots I’ve had done and it’s all down to John’s expertise, his ability to relax you and get the best out of you.

Eric Lalor.- Actor & Comedian

He really loves what he does, and captures the spirit of the shoot. He brings out the best in every way making the shoot really fun but most importantly building your confidence. He tells great stories while he’s working and you don’t even realise you’re being photographed.
