Make it a Rule: Never to Regret, Never to Look Back
I am 32 years old and I can't say I have everything perfect in my life.
Many times, I have struggled to find a balance in my life, but I have no regrets for any of my actions. There were many things that I did regret-I wish I could do and I wish I didn’t do.
So, a day I decided to do everything I can to bring the perfection: work on my goals, priorities set right, live up to the expectations, all with no regret. Because I know how imperfection leads people down the wrong road.

Would you regret if tomorrow is the last day of your life? Do you wish you could have lived differently?
We tend to go through life filled with various dark emotions like shame, regret, and guilt. Sadly, these emotions have occupied a large percentage of our life and at times it leaves us feeling miserable about life.
Do you know why most people regret?
You have the power to set what you want to feel. Regret or live happily. What do we regret the most? Career, self-improvement, love, education, spirituality or health… or wrong decisions/steps.
The research confirms that the old saw is true: you’re more likely to regret the things you didn’t do.
“Never regret yesterday. Life is in you today and you make your tomorrow.” — L. Ron Hubbard
If you commit to a new habit, life will unfold so much better from where you started. The habit of living life without regret is certainly difficult, but as life goes on you have to learn to try thinking in a positive way.
I have formulated a few simple ways to minimize the habit of being regretful.
How to live a life without regret
Rely on these simple ways to rekindle your spirit to live a life without regret.
Move with the flow
“We crucify ourselves between two thieves: regret for yesterday and fear of tomorrow.”
~ Fulton Oursler
We are not meant to have the power to future, but our brain always has this ability to keep us stuck or be curious about the things. It is incredibly difficult to live a life thinking about the fear of tomorrow or in a regret of yesterday. Move on in life with all your bad experiences behind, perceive those uncomfortable feelings comfortably. It is perfectly okay to go with the flow as we always have a choice to move forward in the journey of life.
It’s ok sometimes to make mistakes
“I made a mistake”.
It’s not just you, everyone makes mistakes. You do not have to be perfect always. I usually like to stay up to the expectations, without disappointing anyone, but the truth being -- I also make mistakes and I am not regretful about them. And the key to this is to realize that it’s OK to make mistakes. You are not the only one who does so, we all do, try to figure out where you went wrong, learn more about it, fix it and grow.
Be attentive to your “shoulds”
I should have bought that dress.
I should not have said yes.
I should have started my blog.
I should have a planned morning routine.
It is the things that we “should” have done that often make us regretful. Understand all your shoulds until you have an action plan in your head. Do not ignore them as it will lead you to why? So, act on your shoulds.
Get rid of negative thoughts
Controlling negative thoughts can often backfire you as it will reinforce your thinking pattern, as the more you try not to think about it, it will force you to think more and make things worse. You can get rid of the constant stream of negative thoughts in your mind by changing the tone of your thoughts, keeping yourself busy when a negative thought strikes you and also design positive affirmations for yourself.
Put these things into practice and see where your life takes you without regret. Regret is a feeling that you are facing in the present for something that you did/happened in past.
How to get over regret — how to move on
Think of all the positives
When we acknowledge our feeling of being in regret, evaluate the situations that happened in the past and turn it into a positive change. Sort out all your failures and make sure you do not make the same mistakes again. Think of it as an action in the past that will make a better tomorrow for you.
Learn the lesson
The feeling of regret is not always permanent. It has a purpose so you can learn from them and evolve. When you know something needs to be fixed, do it and do not come back to it again.
Forgive yourself
Forgive yourself for being in the state of being regretful. Believe in yourself that you did the best that you could do, and if the cards did not favor you, let it be, breathe in and move on.
The power of gratitude
Each day write things that you are grateful of. Start a journal. Think of things that happened to you in the day that you appreciate, and write it down. This will make you feel a lot calm and happy.
And for the next time, make it a rule: never to regret, never to look back. You have to let go of the things that bother you. Life is all about minimizing your regrets and maximizing the good times.
