Making a better hamburger than McDonald's?
Most of us can make a better hamburger than McDonald's, they still make much more money than most of the chains and definitely more than any individual restaurants. There are certainly also other brands - such as Texas Chicken, Burger King, etc. - not to mention that McDonald's is building hamburgers, but they are mainly into the real estate business. The real estate business makes them earn more than the others, and focus more on selling and delivering the basic and average burger.
Most of the businesses are focusing on building a better hamburger:
+ being highly specialized in building hamburgers would be only valuable in one industry.
+ if you would be pushed out of
+ this industry you would in trouble.
Contrasting the aviation industry:
+ pilots used to earn over USD 150k pA /
+ skills the pilots have been paid
+ for in the aviation industry can put them into trouble and unions would not possibly support them.
Making a better hamburger:
+ McDonald's is not talented in making the best hamburgers, just know how to run in profit.
Knowing how to build a beautiful hamburger, now knowing much about business:
- Perfecting skills to build the very best hamburger is, getting specialized is a "poor" people's thinking.
Knowing how to build a beautiful hamburger, now knowing much about business:
- Perfecting skills to build the very best hamburger is, getting specialized is a "poor" people's thinking.
- The more specialized your are in building a hamburger, the more you will be trapped in to only building and selling hamburgers.
- However, from a business perspectives, to analyze the "system" you are building is of more and high importance than to just build a beautiful burger.
Learn more, earn more in the long term run:
- When McDonald's has been experiencing an "unionization" attack through the documentary film, "Super Size Me", back in 2004,
- The realized that also being able and experienced in offering the "healthy" option, "a salad" instead, as well as ice-cream, actually did encourage them to keep going.
Sales & Marketing, the key point:
- What would be a product development, or building the perfect hamburger, if you are not able to deliver and sell it?
- I believe that it is not only about the product that you are selling, it is more about being social responsible for handling and dealing with people.
- Most of the firm's are not good at handling a large cash-flow, which is fear of selling their products, not believing that their product is good enough to sell it.
- Fear of not being able to deliver product and service, to handle clients, partners, investors and customers is their weakness
Conclusion:
- Do not only focus on building the "most beautiful" hamburger
- Try to build a business system, make it work and
- Make it convenient for your clients, investors and partners to take and implement your firm's business strategy.
- In the long term run, you will be able to build a better hamburger, but you may not be able to make it as good as a gourmet burger, but you know the saying
- Every pot will find it's cover and there will always be people that will enjoy McDonald's hamburgers, although they are all aware that there is better and worse.
