Managing Complexity

Managing Complexity

While supply “chain” makes it sound so linear and simple, real supply chains are anything but. They are intricately interwoven networks in which every player’s action may affect the others. So how do you manage this complexity? We believe the key is transparency.

An ambitious goal: Digital Supply Chains

A big challenge when managing supply chains is their interconnectedness: Disruptions on any tier of the supply chain can (negatively) affect all other tiers. In a globalized world, it will not be possible to dissolve these connections – strengthening them and making everything more transparent must thus be the solution.

How, then, do we achieve transparency in our supply chains, if not by digitalizing them? Digital tools have the ability to store many more data points and draw conclusions from them, than human brains are. It needs to be said, without envy, that they are better at this than we are. We should thus surrender certain parts of the supply chain management to digital solutions that have been trained for this singular purpose.
