Managing Through Meaningful Moments

Happy Monday friends! Depending on where in the world you are, the last week had some crazy weather and travel challenges to deal with. I hope you got through and had a productive week in spite of all the challenges.

Some exciting news I'd love to share is that I've been working on my next book! I'll be sharing more about it in the coming weeks but we are going to explore a bit of the idea today.

For too long we've focused on metrics and milestones instead of cultivating deep connections with our people. As I discuss in my book Black Sheep, true fulfillment and impact are found not in chasing quotas, but in nurturing others through intentional moments that matter.

We've all been there - drowning in spreadsheets tracking KPIs and rushing to hit goals. But where are the signs that people feel heard, inspired and cared for? Numbers tell an incomplete story. The most meaningful impact happens in fleeting moments, not financial figures or final milestones.

People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. It's time for a shift in our leadership mindset - one that recognizes the human moments that energize teams and unleash their best work. I challenge you to try managing not with rigid procedures but through genuine care, connection and compassion.

That means making time each day to acknowledge others' small wins, not just big wins. With care and specificity, share how their efforts - however small - are uplifting others. Positive reinforcement fuels intrinsic motivation far better than criticism ever could. It's about creating momentum.

It's also essential to check in beyond tasks with genuine interest in people's well-being. Ask how they're truly doing and be fully present with eye contact and listening ears. Vulnerability fosters understanding in a way top-down directives cannot. Hardship and happiness build the empathy to overcome any challenge together.

When attaining milestones, celebrating successes together transforms silo culture into shared triumphs that energize us for what’s next. Let celebrations remind us of our progress while renewing team spirit. Cheer each moment that moves us closer to our purpose.

Most importantly, have each others’ backs. Stand up for teammates facing unjust pushback so they always feel believed in - regardless of results which aren’t always perfect. Loyalty earns loyalty in return; it nurtures the courage to surpass what was once deemed possible.

Finally, keep growing together through a learning mindset. No one has all the answers; we must welcome feedback and new perspectives with humility. Discussing mistakes and victories alike cultivates the courage and compassion to reach ever greater heights.

True power lies not in barking commands or executing procedures but in nurturing others’ humanity. How will you impact through meaningful moments today? Our world needs more care, understanding and meaningful moments. Let's manage through those.
