Mandela Day 2024: Alistair Group Supports Omosa Development in Alexandra
Alistair Group partnered with Omosa Development to support the Alexandra community, one of Johannesburg's oldest townships.
Alexandra, founded in 1912, continues to face challenges including poverty and a need for social relief, particularly during South Africa's current cost of living crisis. Alistair Group chose to focus its Mandela Day efforts on aiding Omosa Development, a local organization making a tangible difference in this community.
Alice Modiri founded Omosa Development five years ago. The organization now provides daily meals to 600 children aged 0-17, serving Early Childhood Development Centres, orphanages, and organizations for children with disabilities.
For this year's initiative, Alistair Group donated food hampers and bulk ingredients to Omosa Development Centre. The contribution included staples such as maize, rice, pasta, cooking oil, sugar, tea, soya mince, stock cubes, and canned vegetables. Alistair Group's senior management actively participated by helping to pack food items.
This initiative came to light through Constance Mbulwana, an Alistair Group employee, showcasing the company's support for employee-driven community engagement.
Clementine James, Director of Alistair Group, emphasized the importance of community outreach: "We are extremely fortunate to be able to use our position to help as many people as we can."
Mandela Day 2024 serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to effect positive change. The collaboration between Alistair Group and Omosa Development exemplifies how partnerships can address community needs effectively.
