Marketing Strategies for Emerging Technologies
Imagine yourself at the forefront of the digital revolution, responsible for spreading the word about the world's most innovative new technology. As a forward-thinking marketer, you know that it takes a certain kind of strategy to get the word out about cutting-edge innovations and get people excited about them. Using these methods, you can pique your audience's interest and hold their attention:
Instead of overwhelming your listeners with technical jargon, practice the art of storytelling to demonstrate the revolutionary potential of these technologies. Compose narratives that take readers on an adventure, illuminating how technologies like AI, blockchain, VR, and the Internet of Things have altered lives at the personal, organizational, and societal levels. Use your creative writing to move your readers, spark their imaginations, and encourage them to see the world in new ways. Before you get into execution mode, you need to analyze your audience—who are they, what are they interested in, and what stories would move them? This audience segmentation is important because no one message will appeal to all groups, which is why many brands engage in communication adaptation. Most importantly, focus on the 'why' instead of the what, because a lot of consumers want to know why your product is needed, and to communicate this, you need to address how your product solves their problems or improves their quality of life.

2. Immersive Experiences:
Seeing is believing. To truly grasp the potential of emerging technologies, people need to experience them firsthand. Create demonstrations and experiences that encourage direct user interaction with the technology to pique the interest of your target audience. An AI software firm might, for instance, create a chatbot simulator for use on the internet. The chatbot's skills can be experienced firsthand by interacting with it. They may put AI-driven natural language processing to the test by asking questions and getting tailored answers and suggestions. The usefulness of artificial intelligence can be better understood by potential clients thanks to this interactive demonstration. In my agency days, we called these activations. There is this belief that because a company is a tech company, there is a limit to the level of creativity that they can engage in. While this is true in many cases, it is not a limitation. Break out of that cluster and embrace creativity.
Some ways:
3. Thought Leadership and Expert Insights:
Establish your company as a go-to resource for cutting-edge tech knowledge by sharing your insights and serving as a thought leader in the industry. Create authoritative writing that delves into the complexities and potential effects of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, blockchain, virtual reality, and the Internet of Things. Blog articles, podcasts, webinars, and research papers are all excellent vehicles for disseminating knowledgeable opinions, industry developments, and innovative viewpoints.
Recommended by LinkedIn
For example, imagine your company hosting a monthly customer success podcast where specific customer use cases are analyzed and how these customers were able to navigate these pain points, or a podcast where leadership figures come to share their experiences or thoughts on a topic. These discussions provide in-depth knowledge by delving into their applications in various fields, ethical considerations, and potential futures. Becoming an authority on the topic can boost your company's credibility and attract the attention of consumers and companies interested in adopting the corresponding technologies.
4. Strategic Partnerships and Alliances:
No man or company is an island, and it takes two to make a village. Partner with well-known figures to increase your visibility and credibility. Work collaboratively on advertising initiatives, content creation, and webinars. For instance, a maker of Internet of Things hardware might team up with a provider of home automation software. They have teamed up to host a series of webinars where they talk about how to use the Internet of Things to make your house more efficient and connected. By working together, they may both expand their own audiences and benefit from each other's knowledge and experience.
For example, a VR headset maker teams up with a well-known VR game developer to promote their wares. The company creates a brand new virtual reality game for the headgear, taking full advantage of all of its capabilities. They work together on marketing to get players excited about the headset and show off what it's capable of.
5. Never underestimate the power of social media.
Leverage social media to interact with your demographic and create a following for your company. Construct engaging contests, games, and challenges and ask users to contribute their thoughts and opinions on the technology.
For example, a blockchain organization launches a social media drive dubbed "Blockchain for Good." Users are encouraged to give examples of how they've seen blockchain technology used to do good in the world. Participants discuss real-world applications of blockchain technology, including efforts to improve supply chain transparency, electoral integrity, and charity giving. This ad demonstrates how blockchain can be used for more than just money and helps bring together blockchain proponents.
Question: What are some other ways that you have seen that marketers are utilizing to promote and generate awareness for cutting-edge technologies such as AI, blockchain, virtual reality, or the Internet of Things (IoT)?
