Marshall Goldsmith's "100 Coaches" Annual Meetings: Memorable and Meaningful
In September 2019, I was invited to a meeting of a lifetime! Having been nominated by Sally Helgesen to become one of the newest members of what was then called the MG100 and now 100 Coaches, I was invited to meet and be interviewed by Marshall Goldsmith and two of the group's earliest members. 100 Coaches is the organization started by Marshall Goldsmith. He has assembled some of the best CEOs, business executives, business founders, professional athletes, executive coaches, authors, scholars, and consultants in the world with one goal: teach everything he knows so that they, in turn, will share his teachings and do good across the globe.
I'm grateful to Sally Helgesen, who Forbes called the "Premier Expert on Women's Leadership," for her belief in me and nomination to the 100 Coaches organization.
A couple of months later, I was informed that I was officially invited to be a member of this exclusive group. I was told to hold the second week in January for what would be the first official Annual Meeting of the MG100. I was excited but also apprehensive. I had plans already for that time, which was a peek period for my business. I thought for a moment and recalled that in looking back, some of the greatest moments in my life were when I sacrificed revenue for an experience. With that in mind, I moved everything and prepared to be at this special event.
The event proved to be the experience of a lifetime. It was everything I thought it would be and MORE!
I joined Dr. Edy Greenblatt for her Restoration Days in the lead-up to the Annual Meeting event. With workshops, time for restoration of the mind and body, and a lecture from author Keith Ferrazzi, it was an excellent precursor to the meeting held at the Calamingos Ranch in Malibu, California.
The Restoration Vacation was hosted by Dr. Edy Greenblatt ahead of the annual meeting.
We then made the journey from Malibu to San Diego. We had a couple of great opportunities for networking and connecting held at Marshall Goldsmith’s estate. It was terrific for me, as a new member, to meet and connect with my new colleagues before a full day of instruction on the next day.

The next day we heard stirring speeches from New York Times best-selling authors Liz Wiseman and Tasha Eurich along with Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management Professor of Management and Strategy Harry Kraemer, former Chairman and CEO of Baxter International. This was followed by the revelation of a new leadership development process shared by Alan Mulally, the former President and CEO of Ford Motor Company and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and Marshall Goldsmith himself. They believed this process could be the future of coaching. What they shared would prove to be a case study we all lived for the next year and is featured in Marshall’s new book.
We left that first annual meeting edified and refined by the new knowledge received, connections made and the overall experience.
Marshall Goldsmith’s 100 Coaches at the First Annual Meeting—January 2020
The experience of the First Annual Meeting created a new rule for me: whenever Marshall Goldsmith tells me to block my calendar, I block my calendar! No ifs or buts, I do whatever it takes to be there. This was reinforced by the fact that just two months later, our entire world was changed by the COVID pandemic. It turns out that the relationships formed during this decisive week nurtured me and carried me throughout the depts of the pandemic, where many were struggling for ways to hang on emotionally and intellectually.
Fast forward to 2022. In addition to responding to a call from Marshall to be in Atlanta for an extraordinary honor—being recognized as one of the Top Mentors on the Globe for 2022 in June 2022, he told all 100 Coaches to block their calendar again—this time for August 2022 for the Second Annual Meeting for the 100 Coaches. Here again, I applied what I learned and did whatever it took to be at both events.
The Second Annual Meeting of Marshall Goldsmith’s 100 Coaches was held in Nashville, Tennessee, at Belmont University’s beautiful Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. We were there due to the hospitality and generosity of the university President, L. Gregory Jones—a fellow member of the 100 Coaches family.

Sarah Cates, who works for Greg at Belmont University, arranged for us to have an incredible evening of entertainment with Hall of Fame songwriters Pat Alger and Kent Blazy. These two songwriters are responsible for some of the top country songs ever made! They were joined by an emerging star who graduated from Belmont University 4 years ago—Emily Falvey! She is so good that she signed a recording contract even before graduation. She is simply incredible. Their performance was a reminder of the power of storytelling and collaboration. It’s a night we won’t soon forget!

Unlike the First Annual Meeting, the Second Annual Meeting did not feature multiple speakers. This one was all about Marshall! We loved every minute of it. He shared key learnings from his best sellers: Triggers, MOJO, and The Earned Life.
Just like the first annual meeting, we left the second annual meeting edified and refined by the new knowledge received, connections made, and the overall experience. It did not disappoint!
I credit many people and organizations for my success, professional development, and growth. This one, 100 Coaches, has been one of the most transformational in my life. I am honored and grateful to be a member.
I’m grateful to have been part of the first two annual meetings of Marshall Goldsmiths's 100 Coaches. The second, just like the first, was memorable and meaningful!

2yEddie Turner, what a nice pictorial view, and words, about 100 Coaches. Thanks very much for the article, and a historical prospective of this great organization, that feels like family. And thanks also for being the social media guru that captures a lot of the group's essence.
