Mastering the MIT Process: Consistency is Key
Welcome LinkedIn friends! Your weekly insight to grow your relationships and book of business.
This week, I want to explore the world of business development habits and explain how the MIT (Most Important Things) process can help you take your BD game to the next level.
This powerful approach helps you build consistency and focus by honing in on what really matters, week in and week out.
At the end, you’ll find a downloadable resource that includes interactive tools for the MIT, Protemoi, and Opportunity List, along with dozens of other resources to help accelerate your business development growth.
Why Business Development is Crucial
If you want to grow your business, prioritizing business development is non-negotiable. It’s about moving forward with purpose, whether that means expanding your opportunities or strengthening key relationships.
While many recognize its importance, BD is too often overlooked in the hustle of daily tasks. That’s why it’s essential to make it a priority.
The MIT process is simple but effective. It ensures that you focus on the most impactful actions every week.
Evaluating Your Lists and Moving Forward
A key part of the MIT process is regularly evaluating both your opportunity list and your Protemoi "First Among Equals" list.
Where are you in each step of the process?
What’s the next move?
Sometimes, it's as simple as sending a follow-up email, scheduling a meeting, or reaching out to offer support.
Every week, pick three specific actions you can take to move the needle. This not only keeps you moving forward incrementally, but it prevents you from becoming overwhelmed.
These actions should be manageable and aligned with your bigger business goals.
By breaking things down into small, actionable steps, you keep your momentum going and always know what comes next.
The Power of Visibility and Consistency
Keeping your relationship list visible is crucial. Relationships are the bedrock of long-term business development, and by consistently investing in your most valuable relationships—your Protemoi list—you ensure you’re moving in the right direction.
Ask yourself weekly: “What can I do to invest in these relationships?” Even small actions add up over time.
Challenges are a natural part of the journey, and how you prepare for them can make all the difference.
As part of the MIT process, make it a habit to write down the things that get you stuck or blocked in your business development efforts.
Then, brainstorm ways to overcome these obstacles. This proactive approach helps you stay ahead of potential setbacks and ensures that you keep moving forward, even when challenges arise.
At BIG, we live and breathe business development. By using the MIT process to streamline our efforts and focus on what’s most important, we create the kind of consistent action that leads to major results. Whether it’s prioritizing key relationships, planning for inevitable challenges, or just staying visible, this method is a powerful way to drive growth.
