Mata Kali is symbol of time and space

Mata Kali is symbol of time and space

Goddess Kali was a symbol. According to the Vedic philosophy, Kaali signifies ‘Kaal’. In Sanskrit; kaal has two meanings : 1. Time. (like—kaal kya hoga) 2. Darkness. (like—Kaala kaaua). Now, why does ‘kaal’ signify both of these? Because, the Time is inseparable to the Space. (I am not saying this, Modern Science is saying this. And our Vedic science understood it thousands of years ago.) The space is Dark. So the time is also considered as Dark. The “Kaala”. That’s why ‘kaal’ has two meanings; Darkness, and Time; in Sanskrit—the Vedic language.

According to the theory of relativity of Einstein, there is no separate time, and separate space. Time is the fourth dimension of this universe along with three-dimensional space. The space exists; because time exists simultaneously with it. Science also proclaims; there are dark matter; and dark energies filling out the 95% of the universe. The entire visible matters of this universe is only 5 %. So; the universe is filled mostly with the ‘darkness’, than light or visible substance. (Again, I am not saying this; modern Science is saying this. Anybody who has little sense of Physics; must have heard of the term —Space-Time—already.)

According to the Vedic Science, so is the Time. Because it co-exists with the Space. Kali is considered as the symbol of this time-space; the ultimate structure of the world—and this is why it is portrayed as dark; just like the space-time in reality, is dark. This is the reason behind that dark color; she was not some special deity to promote the ancient feminism of that time. Now, each matter is associated to certain space-time; also, each matter is a condensed form of energy. (E=mc^2, Einstein’s formula of interchangeable nature of matter and energy). This is how, space-time signifies an existence of something; and whatever exists; is a form of energy.

So; The symbol of Space-Time; Goddess Kali, is also considered as the symbol of energy. ‘The Shakti’. This is why Kaali was considered as the Ultimate Shakti of the universe in Vedic science; and one who follows her was called a “Shaakta”. The violent and horrific form was portrayed of Kaali; because Kaali is the symbol of ‘kaal’, the time; and Time is unforgiving. Time is horrible by its nature. We all know how bad time can be. Time takes everyone to the death eventually; time destroys everything in the end. Time doesn’t take into account of who you are; time doesn’t take into account of how big you are or what your value is, be good or bad; each and everything has an end in the realm of time; and each and everything recedes ultimately in the ever engulfing mouth of the Time.

This is the reason; death is portrayed all around the Kaali. The decapitated heads of demons; the bloods all around. All symbolize the death. The ending. The mortality of everything. Not of evil only; but of everything. It’s just, the evils are first in the line of death. And that tongue sticking out of her mouth, is not to inspire some whatsapp emoji of today; but to symbolize—that the hunger of Kaali (the time) is never filled up. That tongue is always ready to savor the next death; the next destruction; the next ending of something. (Unlike some other mythological stories tells you—that she got ashamed of stepping onto Shiva and stuck out her tongue.) This stuck-out tongue is a reminder to the viewer; the hunger of ‘Kaal’ is not filled yet; and the next person she is going to savour can be you. In no way you can resist her for eternity; and in no way you can escape her. And she relishes licking out your death. It’s her duty; and amusement both.

This is the reason why Kaali’s tongue was made stuck-out while portraying her in Vedic Scriptures. There is no clothing portrayed on Kaali; because— Time also shows you the nude reality. Time is rough, tough, rude, and nude. It speaks bluntly. Both good times and bad times comes without warning; and may go without warning too. Time does not know or follow politeness. Time does not follow any protocol. Time has nothing to ‘hide’ from you. Because she knows; in the end, whoever you are, you are all hers. This is the reason, no clothing is depicted for Kaali. It is a foolishness to compare such a symbolic woman to the women of real world, to justify the nudity of today’s world, just for the sake of spreading the Feminism.

Literally. Now; there are only two questions left about the depiction of Kaali. Why Lord Shiva is lying under the feet of Kaali; and why Kaali is portrayed as a woman, not Man. To answer this—in vedic culture, (unlike the mythological stories tell you); Lord Shiva is considered as the Adi-yogi. The first Yogi who first created the Yogasutra; which is the practical method of liberation of soul, and the fundamental basis of Vedic culture or Hinduism. He is the greatest Yogi of all the time; and that’s why all Yogis have to follow and salute Lord Shiva; before starting their Yoga Sadhana.

Now; among all kind of the Saadhanas; the highest form of Sadhana is Kaala-sadhana—the Sadhana of Time. When you are successful in that; or you achieve “Siddhi” you can control your time. (According to the Vedic concept). Controlling his/her time is the only reason, an enlightened Yogi can choose his death; i.e. the time of leaving his/her body. Once he/she conquers the time through Saadhana; Time becomes powerless on him/her. Lord Shiva; or the Adiyogi under the feet of Kaali symbolizes the fact— Each and every Sadhaka has to surrender himself/herself to the feet of Time; to overcome its power. Even Lord Shiva has to be under the feet of Kaali; i.e. the Time; and has to do Saadhana for it—to go beyond the power of Time. Time was considered this much powerful in the Vedic science. Because, it was the source, the raw material, and also the end—of all creation.

In yogic culture, each and every Yogi has to surrender to the Lord Shiva; before starting his Saadhana; in ancient days. They had to surrender to the adi-yogi—who himself surrendered before ‘Kaali’ (the goddess of time), to overpower her. Shiva overpowered time; the highest form of Siddhi for a Yogi—that’s why he is considered the ultimate yogi and the first complete Yogi, i.e. the adi-yogi. This is also the reason he is called ‘pati’ of Kaali; (or the lord of time) he is not called Swami of her. Swami means ‘husband’. Pati means Prabhu. The lord. Not the husband exactly. (That’s why when we say ‘Raghupati’; it means the lord of Raghabas. Not Husband of Raghabas.) Lord Shiva mastered the time; that’s why he was called the lord of time or ‘Patidev of Kaali’.

Now in ancient India, people from the Mythology department, made out from this concept a juicy story of romance between Shiva and Kaali; and had them married (As suggested in some stories)—just like journalists do nowdays without understanding the things properly. So, Lord Shiva is considered as the only person who can overpower the time (Pati of Kaali), and that’s why he is the only person who can command the time . (For this reason, Shiva is also considered as the God of the destruction, as only he has the power to command “Kaali” or the Time. The Kaali or the Time is bound to destroy everything; if Lord Shiva wants—i.e., if a conqueror of the Time wants.

But even he is placed under the feet of Kaali; to symbolize the importance of her; to emphasise the importance of Time-worshiping in ancient India. That even Lord Shiva has to do Saadhana for her first; in order to overcome its effect. Only then he can overpower her completely. This is why Lord Shiva is placed under the feet of Kaali. It’s not to advance some feminist propaganda in ancient times in India. Now lastly : Why woman? Because; Time holds each and everything in this universe in its womb. The creation happened; only because it has got a ‘time-space’ dimension for it. For anything to exist; Time has to produce it by creating a space for it. Time is also the destroyer of the all things; but time also creates everything; and holds everything within the eternal flow of her.

That’s why time is considered as feminine. Time is a female who gives birth to its children; bears it for a while; and then takes them back again on her embracing lap. While singing the lullaby of the funeral; she gives her children the most peaceful eternal sleep for of their life : the Death. Life is beautiful; only because it has a time-limit to it. Without the time-limit imposed by the death; life is a prolonged disaster only. This is why; Time was considered as Mother in Vedic Culture. An energy; who is feminine in nature. These are all the reasons behind such a depiction of Goddess Kaali. Jay Maha Kali Mata
