In Cairns, the Reefsedge Waterpark and Tourist Park has secured the green light from the Cairns Regional Council for a transformative AU$210 million development at Kewarra Beach, set to open by mid-2026. This ambitious project on the former Paradise Palms site aims to rejuvenate the area, featuring a two-hectare waterpark complete with a three-level slide tower, an aqua tower, a King Cobra water slide, and various attractions for families, including a wave pool and lagoon-style swimming. The tourist park will offer 427 cabins and 53 camping sites, enhancing the local and tourist experience. Developer Darren Halpin expressed delight at hitting this milestone, emphasizing the community's anticipation for such a transformation. The project is poised to boost tourism with an estimated 379,000 visitors annually and is expected to create around 650 jobs, split between construction and operational phases. Glamping Spot by Roseberry Hill Approved Despite Nature Worries
In a move set to boost local tourism, Redcar and Cleveland Council has greenlit a new glamping site near Roseberry Topping. Situated on farmland at High Farm, this development will feature 10 modern shepherd's huts complete with hot tubs, kitchens, and solar panels, as detailed by The Northern Farmer. Despite concerns from the North York Moors National Park Authority about potential environmental impacts, including threats to dark skies and landscape harmony, the council approved the project. Their decision was swayed by economic benefits and the limited scale of the development, which remains outside the park's boundaries. Environmental considerations remain a priority, with guidelines for waste water management and lighting controls to protect the surrounding natural beauty. This approval aligns with Redcar and Cleveland's strategy to leverage the area's natural assets for sustainable tourism, reflecting a regional trend of agricultural diversification into leisure ventures. As the site prepares to welcome visitors, it underscores a delicate balance between development and conservation, a theme resonating throughout these transformative regional projects.
