MEAL PLANNING GOES FAR IN THE CHALLENGE OF FINANCIAL FITNESS.

Good money management starts with basic lifestyle adjustments. 🧾 I’ve saved a lot of money 👏🏾 and so could you.

A guest approached me at an event and said, “I’ve adopted your ‘one’ shopping tip, and my children now eat lasagne. Thank you.”

Taken aback, it took a minute to register what she was saying!

Wow, that’s the impact! – What can one template and a personal story do to change a life?

One! – I stopped purchasing bags of carrots, onions and all the things that come in packets that amount to surplus, created food waste, and bought what was needed.

A devastating Fact: The United Kingdom generated over 9.5 million tons of food waste, with 70% coming from households. The most frequent food waste in the UK is fresh vegetables and salad.

One carrot, onion, potato, and scotch bonnet pepper. The greengrocer started to call me ‘One.’

Hello one, smiling I’d respond, Hi.

Little did he know I was on A SURVIVAL BUDGET; that was all I could afford.

This client was struggling with money management and telling me she was thinking about a go fresh subscription - I asked why and put a solution in place. Not that I didn’t think it was a good idea.

The opposite, it was a brilliant move forward in taking control. However, I could see it was counterproductive to add another expense to an already stretched budget.

Having survived the hardship years of being a single, working mother, I showed empathy. I never need to pass judgment. She was feeling bad enough about the situation already.

A struggling school teacher.

Confident that my tips work not because a textbook said it would but because I have walked the poverty walk.  Aleka, poverty that’s an exaggeration, but it’s not!

Never assume someone is financially stable or assert that they should be!

Most of your colleagues are struggling!

“1 in 4 UK adults are financially squeezed!” **

Poverty definition UK - Households are considered to be below the UK poverty line if their income is 60% below the median household income after housing costs for that year.

A respectable job and in this position – can erupt emotions of shame, anxiety and depression.

What is the in-work poverty rate in the UK?

In 2020/21, around one in five people in the UK (20%) were in poverty – 13.4 million people. Of these, 7.9 million were working-age adults, 3.9 million were children, and 1.7 million were pensioners. Therefore, one in four children in the UK lives in poverty (27%). *

Meal planning is not just for physical fitness. It goes far in the challenge for financial fitness too.

It’s so easy to fall into bad habits that fritter away your disposable income. Still, with practice and determination, you can improve your money and spending habits and choose healthier meal options. #freshfood 🍽

I have managed to plan my meals and not order a single takeaway; when you think an average takeaway is £20. I’ve saved myself extra pounds for something else.

ALEKA GUTZMORE an excellent article. If only people embraced planning more seriously and with real commitment.
