Meaningful Agile Metrics: How to Measure What Matters

Agile metrics can be powerful tools to track and enhance team performance, but they must be carefully chosen and used to provide meaningful insights. Too often, companies focus on vanity metrics or raw data that may look impressive but offer little value for the team's actual improvement. These metrics might be useful for reporting to leadership, but they often lead to misguided decisions that leave the team confused and frustrated.

In an effort to meet these flawed metrics, teams may resort to manipulating their processes, leading to an illusion of progress without any real improvement in outcomes.

The key is to define metrics that truly reflect the team's progress and quality, and to use those metrics to drive data-driven decisions that benefit both the team and the product.
