Measuring Social Impact - Answer the Call to Conscious Leadership

Measuring Social Impact - Answer the Call to Conscious Leadership

As usual, we ended the July Answer the Call to Conscious Leadership event on Measuring Social Impact with way more depth begging to be explored. Our panelist, Christopher Waters , is not only a repeat panelist and ConCon speaker, but the person I think of first and foremost when I think about social impact. He has done so for government, NGOs, non-profits and for-profit organizations, and he has taught it, among other organizational leadership topics, at Penn and Wilmington University.

First, Lawrence Henderson, Ph.D. , Christopher Waters , and I talked about the recent MIT report that finds that most sustainability progress stalled. The rest of the event unfolded to discuss the causes and some solutions. If you weren’t there live, join the C3 community (https://bit.ly/LI_C3) so that you can get access to every month and watch this month’s replay to find out what we said about:

✷The metrics that can be tracked that help measure the success of CSR programs.

✷How organizations can build CRS into their infrastructure.

✷What the most important thing to establish is that will inform how you approach CSR.

✷What are “vanity metrics” and how do they sabotage social impact.

✷How to move an organization past vanity metrics.

✷What prevents organizations from moving past vanity metrics.

✷Two critical questions to ask organizational leaders to make sure that efforts will scale.

✷How to help organizations identify the real gaps between where they are and where they aspire to be.

✷If and how leaders can get out of their own way and over themselves to make real progress.

✷How to overcome resistance to the social impact vision and attachment to the method.

✷The funding systems and how they can be inhibitive by their nature to long-term results.

✷Where private industry can pick up that slack, should they be able to embed CSR where the organization was built without it.

Of course, we hope that the information and insights shared during this, as well as every other, monthly Answer the Call to Conscious Leadership event gets to the people who are in a position to make a real difference. That is one of the primary reasons why we have been building this community, and continue to build this community.
