If you are a leader & do not meditate I believe it is your responsibility to learn.  I have been meditating for over 30 years & studied under some of the best meditational guru’s globally & it is without a doubt the single most life changing discipline I have EVER adopted both personally and professionally. It saddens me when I ask leaders whether they meditate and a high majority  respond with either no or frustration with having tried but never mastered so given up.

I believe meditation should be part of leadership development programmes, off site retreats, EAP programmes. I am not undermining the power of operating from the linear mindset/intellectual realm but to access and tap into the non linear, co-creative realm is limitless in potential. If you wish to elevate your performance where you operate as a leader meditation would be the number#1 recommendation without a doubt.

Here’s my top 12 recommendations;

  1. BE ULTRA PATIENT, DOING meditation on your to do list is VERY different from BEING in the experience of meditation – do not project manage meditation it defeats the purpose of the profound experience
  2. Focus solely on your breathe, if you allow your thoughts to be they will let you be
  3. Consistency is KING, embrace resistance
  4. Start with a predefined time frame say 10 minutes a day everyday.  Increase to 15 mins the next week & work up to 30 minutes daily
  5. Make sure you are sitting up right vertically & that you are REALLY comfortable, wear loose clothing nothing restrictive
  6. Rest your hands open palmed on your lap
  7. Upon awaking best time to meditate
  8. Personally persevere to meditate in silence it’s in my opinion the most powerful access to the meditative state (NOTE:  music & guided meditations are almighty powerful but if you learn to ‘be with’ silence as you become more skilled at meditation) you will never regret it
  9. Get support from someone trained in meditation for it will be ‘the best investment’, you will EVER make
  10. If you want things to change in EVERY aspect of your life meditation is the most effective discipline to adopt
  11. If you wish to end all suffering & I mean all suffering come home to your most powerful resource ‘silence within’
  12. Training oneself to live in the present is the biggest gift you can give yourself for all the answers lie in the silence, in the present moment
