Meet another amazing Covatic Pioneer!

Every successful idea and exciting business is powered by a remarkable team. It's not only about technology or products; it's the people who embody our values that truly matter. Huge thanks to John Episcopo, our Covatic Pioneer! 🎉

Please introduce yourself 👉

Hi, I'm John and I'm the Engineering Manager here at Covatic. I've been in engineering for nearly 20 years now, having moved into the industry following a brief stint in Forensic Science. I made the move as I realised my passion was writing code instead of analysing DNA and I've since held all manner of engineering positions and have worked with a variety of software stacks.

I’ve been with Covatic for almost a year now, and have been amazed at how much we've achieved in that time, all thanks to our amazing team.

What do you most enjoy about your role? 👉

There are many aspects of my role that I enjoy. One of the highlights is working on cutting-edge projects where we're often breaking new ground—it's incredibly exciting. Another favourite aspect is working with my team members, helping them grow and improve as engineers. This role constantly challenges me, and it's rewarding to see my own growth and that of my team as we learn and develop together.

Which Covatic values and behaviours do you align with the most? 👉

Trustworthy, Collaborative, Brave.

⭐Trustworthy:

In my role, I believe that trustworthiness is key. Trust serves as the cornerstone of any effective team, allowing my colleagues to depend on me for support, honesty, and reliability in fulfilling my commitments. When my team knows they can count on me, it creates a safe environment where they feel comfortable sharing ideas, voicing concerns, and admitting mistakes.

⭐Collaborative:

Being collaborative is another important value of mine as it is essential for software engineering. In my role, I try to facilitate open communication, encouraging knowledge sharing, and creating opportunities for team members to work together. We can achieve so much more working together as a team than individually, making the creation of a collaborative workspace essential.

⭐Brave:

Being brave involves the courage to take risks and make difficult decisions. In software development, we often face uncertainty and complex problems. Embracing bravery means being open to new ideas, challenging the norm, and learning from setbacks. It’s about showing my team that taking calculated risks and innovating is not only acceptable but encouraged. By fostering a culture of bravery, I encourage my team to push boundaries and explore creative solutions, helping us stay competitive and resilient. Being brave keeps us moving forward, always improving, fosters continuous improvement, and prevents us from settling for mediocrity.

What are your ambitions for the future? 👉

My ambition for the future is to keep learning and continually push myself to step beyond my comfort zone. By embracing new challenges and expanding my skills, I aim to grow both personally and professionally, enabling me to contribute more effectively to my team and the company.

What advice would you offer to others in your field that has been particularly beneficial to you personally? 👉

My advice is to keep learning, keep experimenting, and maintain a curious mindset by asking questions. Experimentation fuels innovation and uncovers new solutions, while asking questions fosters a deeper understanding and drives collaboration. These habits have been particularly beneficial to me in my career.

Tell us about your interests. 👉

I'm a big sports fan and used to play a lot of football when I was younger. Today, I'm older and falling apart, so it's the golf course for me and (un)ashamedly, I'm obsessed with it!
