TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE

I work within the Paramount Advertising Sales group and, more specifically, support the efforts of the Midwest CBS Broadcast Sales team. My role involves working alongside some of the biggest companies, brands and agencies in the world and helping them reach their marketing and audience goals through the content we produce across CBS and Paramount .

WHAT’S YOUR DAY-TO-DAY LIKE?

It has its fair share of unpredictability. You never know what requests a client will have. This means making sure that each client’s purchased media runs according to their needs – which change often – plus letting them know exactly when a commercial spot or other media element will air, keeping them updated on the CBS programming schedule, providing them with audience measurement data and making sure we have everything we need for their media to air as purchased. It’s a demanding, fast-paced environment but also incredibly fun and exciting.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE CHANGES?

It’s always a conversation with the client. For example, let’s say we have a day where some breaking news coverage preempts or replaces some of our scheduled programming. If a client purchased a commercial spot in the preempted portion, I reach out immediately to let them know that the media did not air as planned and then find a mutually agreeable solution. Often the solution is to simply shift the media to another day or program, but sometimes bigger issues arise that need to be discussed within our larger team. We always want to make sure that our clients are satisfied, their goals are met, and that we deliver what we promise.

 IS MAKING CHANGES DIFFICULT?

Yes and no. It’s all about relationships and communication. If you have a strong relationship and trust built with your clients, issues or changes are easier to handle. My clients know that I’ll take care of them and can sometimes solve their problems even before they ask.

WHO DO YOU WORK WITH?

Everyone! The reality is that getting a client’s commercial spot on the air takes more hands than most people would think. So, I work closely alongside my fellow sales associates, account managers, account executives, VPs, traffic coordinators, Standards and Practices, Finance, and Programming. The list goes on and on. I work hard to make sure that everything runs smoothly and to provide the best customer service possible. It requires all hands rowing in the same direction.

WHAT’S THE BEST PART ABOUT YOUR ROLE?

The people! Externally, many of my clients are early in their careers and at similar life stages as me, so it’s fun getting to know their backgrounds and learning about the industry from their point of view. And I absolutely love my entire CBS Broadcast team in Chicago. We’re super close and work well together. I love that they let me be myself and accept me for me. We all want each other to succeed and that’s the beauty of working at Paramount. I enjoy being in the office and interacting with everyone. There’s so much positive energy!
