Meet Kevin, Team Lead Presales, in our Professional Development Interview Series
Having the opportunity to evolve freely and realize one's own goals matters a lot to us all. At Optibus, we support our employees by shaping career paths together with them in a way that encourages professional growth. In our new interview series, the spotlight is on those who have developed within the company – often in a way that has enabled them to explore various parts of the business. Here, we are all driven by one common goal: Making public transportation better. Together.
Today, Kevin Nguyen , Presales Lead, North America, shares some of his insights with us.
----------------------
Tell us about how you got started at Optibus and how you developed to where you are now?
Coming into Optibus as a Presales Engineer, I started off being the only one in the role within the North America region. With that comes the responsibility to develop a presales methodology and process from scratch. As we partnered with more transportation agencies, we had to scale up the team which led me to where I am today.
What professional experiences did you have that led you to your current position?
I have been a presales engineer for 5 years prior to joining Optibus at both corporations and startups. Within those organizations, I was thrown into high pressure situations, forced to sink or swim. Those experiences have been extremely valuable to put my best foot forward at Optibus.
What would you recommend to people who want to develop in this direction?
Being a self starter with limited to no direction is the greatest recommendation I can give to anyone who wants to develop in this path. It may be tough at first and you may fall down a few times as you are learning the ropes. However, with perseverance you will get a lot of growth from it.

Which Optibus value are you mostly connected to and why? (Determined, Innovative, Caring or Impactful)
Determination has been the key Optibus value that I am most connected to. When I set a goal for myself, it is extremely difficult for me to give up unless absolutely necessary.
What’s one thing you wish someone had told you when you were at the early stages of your career?
Prioritize your wellbeing. At the early stages of my career, I was trying really hard to prove myself. Although getting into a career direction that you want and may be tough and full of adversity, your holistic health should be first. This will in turn be a major contributor to advancing into the career direction that you want to go into.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Windsurfing, Watch Assembly, and Mountaineering have been paramount to ensure I am at the best mental place to put in the work.
