Meet the Leaders Series: Hospice operations with Angie Krall

Passion – have you wondered what inspires someone to dedicate their career to hospice care? For many, it’s the opportunity to make a meaningful impact during one of life’s most important transitions. At Enhabit Home Health & Hospice, leaders like Angie Krall, RN, vice president of operations, find fulfillment in providing dignity, compassion and comfort to patients and their loved ones.

This deep commitment to end-of-life care provides clinicians a sense of purpose and fulfillment that’s rare in other professions. For the hospice team members, passion isn’t just a word; it’s a promise to provide dignity, respect and support at every step of the journey.

A journey of purpose

Angie’s journey into hospice care began early in her nursing career when she cared for a patient at the end of his life. That experience allowed her to support and educate the patient and his family, leaving a lasting impression.

“The beauty of ensuring comfort at the end of life was so impactful that I knew this was where I belonged,” Angie said. “I believe the end of life should be celebrated just as much as the beginning.”

Since then, Angie has cared for many hospice patients and families and has dedicated her career to hospice nursing.

Motivated by meaningful impact

Angie draws daily motivation by the heartfelt gratitude she receives from patients’ families and caregivers. For her, this feedback reaffirms the importance of her team’s work.

“We only get one chance to provide excellent care at the end of life, and my team truly excel in caregiving and serving both patients and families,” she said. “It’s an honor to work alongside such an incredible group of people.”

Lessons in leadership

A key part of Angie’s success is her belief in fostering a positive work culture. She surrounds herself with strong leaders and compassionate clinicians who share her commitment to quality patient care.

“I prioritize making my team feel valued and appreciated for the incredible work they do,” she said.

Angie believes that effective leadership starts with listening, setting clear expectations and trusting the team to rise to the occasion. “Leaders should be open to feedback, continuously learning and always willing to support their team,” she added.

Advice for future hospice leaders

Hospice work is a calling, whether you’re at the bedside or leading a team. Angie encourages anyone interested in hospice care to find a mentor or volunteer with a hospice agency to learn more about the field.

“It’s a privilege to serve hospice patients and their families at the end of life,” Angie said.
