Meet Michael [Interviews Series #5]

Meet Michael [Interviews Series #5]

LinkedIn gives us the opportunity to meet new people, and thanks to that, I had the pleasure to sit down and talk with Michael Reilly from Australia!

Michael is an IT geek with big passion for digital art and multi-media. He is a young and ambitious entrepreneur who create amazing content for leading brands, and on his spare time, he volunteers with Vinnies Victoria.

"I am a lover of quantum mechanics and string theory."

Q: What do you do and why?

I run my own business in social media marketing and content creation. For the last 15 years I “self-taught” myself how to do graphic art, audio and video editing, and many other forms of digital art. Why let all this knowledge go to waste, when I can make money – and let my creative juices flow!

Q: What’s your hobby? Why did you choose that?

Archery. I have been doing it for the last 5 (almost 6 years) and was seeking a new social activity after a knee reconstruction.

Q: What are your best tips for someone who is doing his first steps in your field?

The number of followers is not what is important… it is the QUALITY of your followers! I see too many people on social media wanting to be an entrepreneur because they have made a Facebook post or a tweet go viral. Or they start an online side hustle or business, and don’t get the amount of followers they want… or worse, they compare themselves to others!

WHY are you doing this? Money? Influence? Recognition? They are all fine reasons to start a business – but do it for you! Not to make people envious or to throw an image of “I am a success!”

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

The man who made me get off my backside, and give me the courage to start my business after 15 years of delay – James Laughlin. His content on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram makes you think. His recent podcasts are well worth listening to also.

Q: If you had a time machine, where would you go?

27-29 July, 1937. Madison Square Garden in New York to see Led Zeppelin live.

My motto in life is;
"Be the best you that you can be – without becoming arrogant."

Q: If you had a super-power what will it be, and why?

Not sure of you can print this, but it would be calling out bullshit. There are so many meetings where people are getting ripped off or taken advantage of. I’d just burst in the room and go, “Bullshit! You’re talking bullshit!” And in the end, people would stop talking shit.

Q: Where would you like to travel?

Cuba, Israel, New Zealand, and Canada.

Q: Each one of us has at least 2-3 core values that he/she won’t compromise them. What are yours?

Thoroughness, professionalism, and tenacity.

Q: What’s the phone app you use the most (besides LinkedIn…)

The notes app!

Q: What is your definition of success?

Happiness!

So, we got to the end of this interview, and it was cool!
