A Meeting Agenda is a MUST

A Meeting Agenda is a MUST

Do you ever get a meeting invite that doesn't have an agenda, objectives, deliverable, or anything that tells you what the meeting is about?

A client of mine calls that a "Naked Meeting."

Naked meeting invites create all kinds of anxiety for the recipient:

  • What's the meeting about?
  • Is it worth my time to go?
  • Who else is going to be there?
  • What do I need to do to prepare?
  • Is this the same meeting that we talked about having or is it a different meeting?
  • Did I do something wrong?
  • Uh oh....

The list can go on and on. But here's the thing: Without any clue about what the meeting is about, the mind will go in search of a reason. With a dearth of information, the mind will concoct the worst possible alternative.

So don't do that. When you send a meeting invite, send the agenda. At the very least, the objective(s) of the meeting. If you receive a naked meeting invite, spare yourself the anxiety and ask for the agenda.

As another client once said, "No agenda, no attenda!"

You may even want to use this agenda template to structure your next formal meeting agenda!
