Megha Arora, daughter of an auto rickshaw driver becomes a UPSC topper

Hailing from Agra, Megha has achieved the eighth rank at the All-India level in the Indian Economic Service (IES) examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Her father, who has studied until the eighth standard, is an auto rickshaw driver and her mother is a primary school teacher. Megha has fought all odds to achieve this tremendous success. Megha, who has always been a meritorious student, got 95 percent in her 12-standard examinations. This achievement gave wings to her dreams and she got admission at Hansraj College, Delhi University. Although in school Megha had studied science, in college, on her uncle’s insistence, she went the commerce way. After completing her graduation, she decided to pursue her post-graduation from the Delhi School of Economics. Megha then decided to aim for the IES examination conducted by the UPSC. The examination was organised in May this year, and the results were announced on July 17. She was then asked to come for the interview, and the final results were announced on September 23. Megha’s efforts can be ascertained by the fact that she was able to crack the examination on her very first attempt. Megha began preparing for the examination after a friend suggested it to her. Though her basic concepts of economics were clear, it was after 8–10 hours of daily studies that she cracked the examination.
