Men’s health - tips for a balanced, fulfilling life

Looking after your physical and mental wellbeing is essential to living a balanced, fulfilling life, and it’s something we can all prioritise.

To mark Men’s Health Awareness Month and International Men's Day, we’ve connected with members of our team to explore what health means to them. They’ve shared their personal insights and strategies for staying well, offering practical tips and advice we can all learn from. Let’s keep the conversation about health open and support one another in living our best lives.

Thomas Butcher – Sales Director

When you think about health and wellbeing, what does it mean to you personally? To me, health and wellbeing are about consistency. Build on good decisions, stay self-aware, and keep tweaking your habits—you'll get closer to your goals with every step.

What’s one health habit or tip that’s made the biggest difference in your life? Sleep is key. Going to bed by 10 pm changed everything for me, thanks to my wife. I even tape my mouth shut for deeper sleep—it sounds odd but works wonders for breathing and REM cycles.

Winter can be tough for staying healthy – do you have any routines or practices that help you keep well during the colder months? Winter makes excuses easy, but balance is crucial. Stay active when you can, don’t overindulge, and find ways to enjoy the daylight. Focus on restoring equilibrium instead of aiming for perfection.

Mark Rowley – Marketing Manager

When you think about health and wellbeing, what does it mean to you personally? It’s about caring for both body and mind—staying active, doing things that make me happy, like spending time with my daughter, and taking time to relax and reflect.

What’s one health habit or tip that’s made the biggest difference in your life? "You are what you eat" resonates with me. Eating healthier boosts my energy and mood, but balance is key—allowing myself treats like chocolate helps me stick to good habits!

Winter can be tough for staying healthy – do you have any routines or practices that help you keep well during the colder months? I make an effort to walk outside daily. It lifts my mood and energises me, and I avoid distractions like my phone to fully enjoy the moment.

Danny Mines - Strategic Relationship Manager

When you think about health and wellbeing, what does it mean to you personally? It’s about being my best self and better than yesterday. As Joe Wicks says, “You’ll never feel bad after a workout.” Exercise boosts my mood, and working out before work sets the tone for my day. Plus, the fitness community keeps me motivated and inspired.

What’s one health habit or tip that’s made the biggest difference in your life? Do what you enjoy, or you won’t stick with it. Try different activities, start small, and build gradually. Exercising with a friend adds accountability, and Couch to 5k is a great starting point. Most importantly, don’t compare yourself to others—your journey is your own.

Winter can be tough for staying healthy – do you have any routines or practices that help you keep well during the colder months? I schedule "active times" each week and plan ahead, including laying out workout clothes the night before. Having a plan keeps me accountable and helps me push through cold, dark mornings.

Tom Croghan - Head of Bids

When you think about health and wellbeing, what does it mean to you personally? It’s about creating balance and feeling able to thrive, not just survive. Taking time to care for yourself—physically and mentally—makes all the difference in how you approach each day.

What’s one health habit or tip that’s made the biggest difference in your life? Taking regular breaks has been a game-changer. A short walk or a few quiet minutes helps clear my mind, manage stress, and stay focused. Building these small habits into my day has made a big impact on my health and productivity.

Winter can be tough for staying healthy – do you have any routines or practices that help you keep well during the colder months? Simple routines like getting enough rest, staying active indoors, and eating hearty, nutritious meals help. Winter can feel isolating, so connecting with others or doing something you enjoy can really lift your spirits.
