Mental Health Day at Costa
In recent years, well-being in the workplace has become a central issue, essential for the quality of work and continuity over time. Wellbeing represents a state of dynamic balance that involves body, mind and spirit, promoting a satisfying and meaningful life.
At Costa, we believe it is essential to support our people throughout their professional careers in our company. The commitment we make is to accompany them through various moments, offering tools and support to face each step with serenity and confidence.

There is a dualism between the world of ships and the world ashore, which move in parallel but adapt to the specificities of both.
Shoreside, the Costa Wellbeing Team was born in 2017 from a strategic alliance between professionals from the different areas of human resources departments: administration, talent acquisition, business partnership and compensation. The team promotes an innovative and fluid approach, overcoming the traditional concepts of department and hierarchical reporting, where each person makes their skills and attitudes available.
The crew experience is our priority since the beginning of our journey. In 2019, we gave it a boost by creating a special dedicated department, fully committed to improving the quality of life on board for the entire crew. Our goal is to ensure the best offer of activities and services, so that every crew member perceives the ship as a special "home away from home". We believe that creating a positive, supportive and welcoming environment is beneficial for our crew and consequently for our guests.
Let’s look at some of the initiatives launched by our wellbeing team for shoreside colleagues:
• We were pioneers in Smart Working: offering flexibility for a better work-life balance since 2019.
• Flexible Benefits: a paradigm shift in incentive recognition, enabling incentives to be converted into services, resulting in substantial tax advantages.
• Health insurance: offered to every employee for health prevention and care.
• Non-occupational accident insurance: extension of non-occupational accident coverage to every employee.
• Digitalization of meal vouchers: like a credit card for a better usability of the tool.

• Interactive workshops on Wellbeing topics: prevention, wellness, mindfulness, stress
management, and more.
• Fuel card: a concrete tool to help cope with inflation.
• Capsula: installation of a check-up device in the company for the personal measurement of indicators of physical and mental well-being. As far as ships are concerned, following a mapping of all the services and activities dedicated to the crew, we have created a structured and quality offer with the following initiatives:
• Real-time Feedback: Crew Voice, a system to monitor and improve all on-board services.
• Focus on Food: updating and renewing menus according to crew requests, theme evenings and Sunday buffets, introduction of healthy and gluten-free snacks, offers dedicated to the crew for numerous on-board outlets.
• Renovation of common areas: restyling of the Crew Bars, Laundrette, and gyms to improve comfort and functionality.
• Welfare & Wellbeing Calendar: a monthly calendar that includes entertainment activities, discounted excursions, holidays, culinary events or sports activities in line with the multiculturalism on board.
• Cultural promotion: free access to e-books and audiobooks through an e-book and audiobook platform.
• Psychological Support and Mental Well-being: Psychological support services, including EMDR for the most critical cases, and free support through ISWAN, ABC Course of Mental Wellbeing on the internal training platform.
• Crew Experience Specialist: a new position dedicated exclusively to creating and managing the best onboard experience for the crew.
Furthermore, we have a policy for transgender employees and those transitioning, which enhances our commitment to well-being.
