Mentorship Mastery

Mentorship Mastery

JDC Jose DiCervo

In the realm of youth coaching, my journey unfolded back in 1990 within the walls of my first martial arts school. The genesis of my calling emerged from an encounter with a young boy brought to me by his older sister. Sensing an opportunity, I offered him a complimentary class, forging a connection that, unfortunately, proved ephemeral. The boy vanished from my classes, and my efforts to reach out were met with an unexpected revelation, he had taken his own life.

The shock of this tragic event became a catalyst for a profound personal commitment. Puzzled by the signs I had missed, I vowed to become an unparalleled coach, mentor, and leader for the youth. This resolve led me to acquire certifications in children's psychology of learning, immersing myself in the intricacies of pattern recognition and design. The scope of my expertise broadened to encompass nutrition and mental health, all in pursuit of the lofty goal of becoming the quintessential role model and mentor for the youth.

From the early days of teaching martial arts, my journey evolved into a broader mission: to guide and mentor the youth towards effective societal leadership. Yet, this noble pursuit brought with it a set of challenges, namely, the intricate dynamics of the family unit. Undeterred, I delved into parenting courses, cultural studies, and an exploration of diverse belief systems.

My quest for understanding led me to a psychologist specializing in child behavior, a pivotal mentor who unraveled the complexities of children's thoughts and motivations. Confronting personal challenges, including the absence of formal degrees, I charted a course of self-education through extensive reading, relentless questioning, and the development of my own systems and processes.

My dedication extended beyond individual coaching sessions to intimate involvement with families, addressing marital and home dynamics, and fostering positive engagement between children and parents. Anchored by unwavering support from my wife, a believer in our mission, I refined our proprietary process to effect transformative change in the lives of children and families.

Despite initial gaps in formal credentials, my commitment to continuous learning remained unyielding. Staying abreast of the latest developments in child development, mental health, and leadership, I now find myself providing online mentoring and coaching to children across different states. The personal connections forged online have translated into deeper insights into their challenges and aspirations.

Amidst these endeavors, I accomplished a significant milestone: becoming an author. Three books now bear testament to my journey -

  • "Becoming A Black Belt,"
  • "The Chosen Champion," and
  • "Crafting Your Future."

The book covers of "Becoming a Blackbelt, The Chosen Champion and Crafting Your Future"

All three can be found on Amazon, each offering unique insights into personal development, resilience, and the journey towards becoming the best version of oneself.

The most gratifying chapter of my narrative lies in witnessing the transformative impact on the lives of the children and families I've touched. Former students have emerged as doctors, physician assistants, entrepreneurs, and teachers. While the fruits of my labor may not manifest immediately, the enduring success stories attest to the profound and lasting impact of dedicated and comprehensive youth mentoring.
