  • The Golden Globe Awards tried to rehab its reputation on Tuesday with its 80th ceremony hosted by stand-up comedian Jerrod Carmichael. The New York Times reports that folks behind the scenes (think agents, publicists, stylists) said that very few stars were eager to attend the ceremony, either as nominees or presenters. At least 20 nominees did not attend, including Julia Roberts, Cate Blanchett, and Zendaya, who was named best actress in a television drama for “Euphoria.”
  • Two days before the Globes, stars gathered at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York for The National Board of Review awards gala. Colin Farrell and Michelle Yeoh were among the honorees; Steven Spielberg took home best director; and best film went to “Top Gun: Maverick.”
  • The Martell Sneaker Atelier, a one-day experience from spirit brand Martell Cognac that was executed by experiential agency 160over90 at SNS New York, included a "brain wave bar" by creative technology studio Random Quark. Attendees wore brainwave-sensing headsets while recalling a positive holiday memory. Artists then hand painted the individual brainwave patterns on a pair of sneakers that guests were asked to bring with them—creating a personalized take-home gift.
  • After clinching their first NFL playoff berth in six years, the New York Giants celebrated big time. According to Page Six, the team “shut down” NYC Asian fusion restaurant Sei Less “for a private celebratory event” that cost $40,000.
