Midweek Camel Wake Up, New Run Apparatus, and Procrastination

"A man who procrastinates in his choosing will inevitably have his choice made for him by circumstance."

— Hunter S. Thompson

I was woken up by a camel.  It’s time to start this magical day. I’ve got some cleanup work this morning and then a hard-charging afternoon.

Yesterday was a good day. I caught up with a long-time client at a new coffee shop close to our hood. It was in an old garage, had a feeling like something out in Denver, the coffee was good; the atmosphere was better.

We reviewed his needs came up with an action plan, and I headed off to do some work with my team. I wrapped up my work and had lunch with my Queen and then raced off to see another longtime client on the West side of Indianapolis. I ended my day with a good friend and client on the north side of Indy. Since I live on the south side, I covered all the quadrants of the capital of Indiana.

I got home, participated in a board meeting via Zoom and then put on some running gear and headed out the door. I’m trying to make small changes in my life to become a better human. My Queen and I used to run, but quit to take on a new program, we’ve not run for a couple of years, but we both have the itch and so yesterday was a day, one of many, we will go for a run.

The first thing I noticed that was a little new feeling was this little extra padding around my waste. I could feel a little jiggle; I don’t recall having that before, I guess that’s why I need to run. With time that jiggle will melt away, I had begun to notice my little friend, but to see it is one thing, to feel it during exercise is another. I might name it before it leaves the train station.

In addition to our runs, I continue to do my daily pushups, I say daily but it’s not every day, it’s most days, but some days the “I don’t want to” win the battle over the “I know I should.”

I’ve got a couple of things on my back burner that I’m moving up to the front burners this morning. Things that need my attention that I keep pushing off, but it’s time to own and clean up a couple of things that need my brain power. I think we all have things that we know we need to tend to, but due to various factors, we put off dealing with those things. Today I ask that you look at your stove top and move the back-burner things to the front burners and get that weight off your mind.

Procrastination is a component of life; we tend to do the things we like and put off the things that are going to require a little attention and time. I woke up thinking, I need to take a deep dive on these two issues, find a solution and implement the said solution.

Join me in living your best life. Make a small change that will help you improve your body, mind, or soul. Life is a series of small incremental changes to better yourself. What can you do today to make yourself a better human than yesterday? That is my question; I’d love to know your answer.

Except that sometimes procrastination is a "sixth sense," telling us there is a reason to put something off.  So I try to honor procrastination too.  I got the idea from Nassim Nicholas Taleb, author of The Black Swan.
