MillionPlus sources private jet for YouTuber sensation MrBeast by putting Guernsey on the global map with Aurignys help and local lad Harry Lewis wins

MrBeast, who has over 112 million YouTube subscribers at the time of this article and is one of the highest earning content creators in the world, launched a competition to give away a private jet.

He is known for his philanthropy, donating large amounts of his own money through his organisation, Beast Philanthropy, which provides life-changing grants and assistance to alleviate hunger, homelessness and unemployment. His jaw-dropping contests on YouTube, which attract thousands of US dollars in sponsorship, have included spending 50 hours buried alive, a remake of the Netflix hit show Squid Game competition, and an extreme game of tag with a $500,000 cash prize for the winner, all filmed and broadcast on Mr Beast’s YouTube channel.

On a Wednesday night on the 31st August 2022, Jo Deen, in our MillionPlus.com team took the initial call from the USA out of hours. The caller stated that they wished to buy a private jet in the next couple of weeks for a competition they were arranging for MrBeast.

As a business, MillionPlus.com receives hundreds of requests every month and sometimes it’s difficult to tell which mean business and which are simply out of curiosity. People from across the globe tell us what they would like to buy next and they engage with us for various searches and finance requests. You never really know who you are talking to, ever, as so many of our requests are discrete and are made on behalf of very wealthy individuals, and so you never judge.

Who is Mr Beast?

Shortly after, we were visiting London for an appointment for my eldest daughter, Isabella, and the family was gathered together for dinner in London. At dinner, after having a conversation with Joanna Deen about the new enquiry, I asked my children who was MrBeast? My youngest daughter, Luciana, was ecstatic. Daddy, Daddy, Daddy – is he a client? – is he buying a house in London? Question after question.

As a father of three, my teenage daughters had to educate me, as I had no knowledge of who MrBeast was.

The world of professional YouTubers was something I had some minor knowledge of, but not who they actually were. We once had a member of my team visit from London whose son was on a mission to meet WS2 (Harry Lewis) of the sidemen. We subsequently found out that my daughters had been taught by his mother at a local school.

My daughters were so excited about sharing Mr Beast’s videos with me and we sat down together to watch many of his incredible contests. It was great fun, and I then became his 104,545,789th subscriber.

Thursday 1st September conference call 5pm GMT.

24 hours later, I was now well prepared for the conference call with MrBeast’s team in the US, thanks to my daughters. The “Daddy you must ……” etc when children want you to do something for them. My team on the call was Jo Deen and my new staff Naima, Paul and Chris, who wanted listen to how their boss operated.

After our initial call, it was clear my team could help, but we had no idea how closely we’d work to make this a success. This team once they landed in the UK would become part of my business, and I theirs, as I invited them to use our offices as their base.

They shared their mission objectives and I shared my 20 years’ of contacts that I could draw upon to get the job done. They wanted to buy a private jet in the next two weeks for a video that would begin filming on the 19th September. The newly purchased jet would be the prize that the winner of the new competition, would take home. The competition was straightforward – all contestants would place a hand on the jet and the last person remaining with their hand on the jet would be hailed as the winner. The team planned to film the entire stunt to broadcast on MrBeast’s YouTube channel and this required filming at multiple locations. As such, they needed to locate a number of suitable aircraft hangars that they could use, plus various props.

The call went well, and with my entrepreneurial mindset, I was focused on solutions. This was the start of an experience I will always remember. I learned to admire the American way. I have often used Winston Churchill’s line of never ever giving up – ever, and we will fight them on the beaches etc so to spend time with young entrepreneurial talent was exciting for me.

We had the green light to go ahead and source the private jet on behalf of the MrBeast team.

But that was just the start of it. I offered to help them overcome the other challenges that they might face on their journey.

To source the airport locations with suitable hangars, I thought of my contacts Morris Leslie who owns Perth Airport in Scotland, Stuart Falla to help with Guernsey, Dinard in France which I knew was empty post-Covid, Wales with Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden fame, and David Hayman of Channel Jets for Biggin Hill and Bournemouth.

We would help with finding and chartering aircraft to transport the team and participants, plus secure airfields across the UK where they could land and undertake their filming. We were up against it time wise, working to a very tight schedule, as we needed everything in place ready for the competition to take place in just 2 weeks’ time.

Making the impossible possible is the only way I know to move forwards.

To make it through the challenging times of my daughter being very unwell, whilst facing the demands of running a demanding business, I’ve learned to do all that I can to survive and achieve.

Using my black book of high profile connections, my team sprang into action to make Mr Beast’s request a reality.  We needed to source a suitable jet for the prize. Part of the contest was to fly the contestants around, landing in different locations whilst they continued to have their hands placed on a part of the jet, all the while filming the trip for MrBeast’s YouTube channel.

To make the video happen, I telephoned my trusted jet sourcing specialist, Giovanni Piccione, an Italian with a love of Formula 1 and his lovely wife Daniela – between them, they have 60 years of off-market jet experience. Gio sourced the winning Hawker XP 800 Jet prize. Twice!! He found not one but TWO jets that would work.

In addition, David Hayman, the founder of Channel Jets , another of my close contacts, was brought in to charter Eclipse Jets with the help of his senior colleague Neil Harvey.

Next, a plan of action was needed to ensure that there was a route in place, with airfields secured up and down the UK. I saw this as an opportunity to put my home of Guernsey, with its stunning coastlines, on the map to a global audience.

I was born and raised in Guernsey and I am proud to say that I still live on this beautiful island and I’m raising my family here. I wanted to give something back and provide Guernsey with a platform where she could shine. What better way than through MrBeast’s video, which will be viewed by over 109 million viewers around the world.

The USA arrived in the UK and came straight to our offices and the work then began in earnest. Hourly updates and white board exercises became the norm.

All working together

As the journey and challenge unfolded, so my knowledge increased on the way this US team worked, and it gave me a fascinating insight into how many US nationals live for the American dream. Never once did they comment on being tired, or hungry or lose focus on achieving their objective. 18 – 20 hour days working nonstop were the norm.

Even my children were copying the MrBeast team

My daughters were asking me daily for updates and would they get the opportunity to meet MrBeast. The power of social media to captivate so many young people is incredible. My contacts who were also parents with young children were motivated to help once their children explained to them who MrBeast was.

We needed fast results and I telephoned the former Chief Minister, Stuart Falla, (the Guernsey equivalent of calling the prime minister in the UK). When Stuart was unavailable, I contacted the State’s treasurer, Bethan Haines, as I needed to find a hangar in Guernsey for filming and someone had mentioned that the States of Guernsey airline owned a hangar for its aeroplanes.

Bethan and Stuart introduced me to the Aurigny (Guernsey airline) CEO, Nico Bezuidenhout and to Guernsey Ports’ COO, Ross Coppolo, the States of Guernsey officer in charge of the ports. They both have children and were aware of MrBeast. So many parents then became increasingly involved as the power of MrBeast took over with us all pulling together to make the impossible possible.

Adam, Craig and I spent the 15th September flying from Biggin Hill airport to Church Fenton, Leeds East airport to Bournemouth, on to Guernsey and back to Biggin Hill. Adam and Craig were doing site location assessments looking at hangar space and suitability for what was required.

Flying private is not as expensive as many people are lead to believe – so many empty legs (where a jet flies one journey to another destination and returns empty) exist where you can fly from as little as £100 depending on the date/time.

My client and good friend, Morris Leslie, offered us the use of his airfield. Surprisingly, he had a tank that we could use plus some old cars that could be smashed up. The only challenge for us was that his runway wasn’t long enough to land and take off safely. Such a shame! We also tried very hard to make Dinard a location but unfortunately, we ran out of time. That would have been superb.

When we landed in Guernsey, Ross Coppolo met with us and we viewed the Aurigny hangar. Chris Roussel, Simon Bretel and Jason Bowley were extremely helpful on advising what could be done. They also introduced me to pilots and crew who would end up helping the team flying the Hawker.

By now this was the 15th and we wanted to film on the 20th. In the middle of this we had the Queen’s funeral. Flying as planned was now looking like London Southend; Church Fenton, Leeds; Guernsey; and back to Southend.

The next challenge was to charter an aeroplane that could fly 58 people from location to location – there were none available! No problem for us – another phone call to Nico, CEO at Aurigny, and we were able to charter one of the Guernsey airline’s ATR 72 seater plane. Who would have thought you could have chartered an islands aeroplane? The MrBeast team were paying to charter the plane at a daily investment of £28k – a great way to help the local airline.

Clive Acton and Matt Capazario, Guernsey’s Ports’ Safety and Compliance Manager, assisted with the arrangements. Guernsey Airport even had to reschedule flights in order to accommodate the contest, which was no small feat. We were very lucky that the scheduled engineering was light for this week and planes could be moved to clear space in preparation for filming.

Eventually, after days of hard work, we had a deliverable plan in place. It was a real team effort, from clearing out hangars and securing airfields to providing the team with office space and a place to stay, it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of so many friends and contacts.

Sunday 25th September – Competition Day

The competition finally started on Sunday 25th September and took place over 27 hours. The competition was extremely fierce and my children were desperate to know when would the film crew and MrBeast arrive in Guernsey – they were asking me all day!

Guernsey airline (Aurigny) ATR72

As hour after hour passed, the flight teams and crew for the Guernsey airline ATR 72 and a few Eclipse 550s from Channel Jets plus the Hawker 800 were all waiting to fly. The plan had been to fly from Southend to Church Fenton near Leeds and, once filming at that location had been completed at around 1pm, the contestants would depart Leeds to fly to Guernsey. Around 4:30pm we were scheduled to depart Guernsey to go back to Southend with the possibility of a quick stop in Geneva and then finally back to Southend. But, with 24 hours to spare, the Church Fenton and Geneva stops were dropped.

My children were waiting all day and I was constantly getting asked when would they arrive. We had flight tracker installed on our planes and no news.

We had a number of stops lined up in case we decided to land at various times but not all of them were used, including Guernsey. However, one of my happier moments was that the lucky winner was from Guernsey so hopefully this article reaches many people and we can still put Guernsey on the map. Maybe one day in the future they may return to film to create content on another day and I would jump at the chance to work with MrBeast and his team again.

When I look back over this time, I am really proud of what we managed to pull off in such a short period of time. MrBeast’s team and I were all conscious of the clock ticking down and the enormous time pressures we were under to pull this event off. But, working solidly for 18 hours a day, the team didn’t see problems, just challenges and solutions to be found. There were plenty of moments when we had to rethink our strategy and plans; filming was cancelled for two days and we had to change our flight route a few times, but MrBeast’s team never for one second faltered in their belief that we could all make this happen. There were just challenges and solutions. It was such a dynamic way of working and wonderful for my children to see; that hard work, perseverance and resilience really pays off.

It really was a race to make things happen, with only a matter of 14 days to pull it all together. Adrenalin kicked in and, working together, we did it. I’m so grateful to my incredible contacts for their goodwill, generosity, and support, providing their time, making phone calls and opening their black books, to enable MrBeast’s contest to happen. I cannot thank everyone enough for taking my random calls requesting the impossible. I also want to express my gratitude to Alex Campbell who works for the Mr Beast team and Adam Constantine of Ace Creatives who will now become life-long friends.

If I took a phone call like that again and was asked to help on another event, would I say yes? Of course! It was such hard work but it really opened my eyes to new possibilities. I jumped at the chance to take part as I believe that we have to take risks in life, push ourselves beyond our comfort zones, and try new experiences. That’s the way we learn and progress in life, and goodness I have learned a lot in just a few days. It’s really incredible what can be achieved when you show a willingness to learn and participate. It’s been such an honour and I’d jump at the chance to do it again.

That's cool you helped him source a private jet. If he ever needs to source the registration plate for a car in the UK (personal use or for promo shots) then I just won it at the October DVLA auction. MRB345T

Great story from start to end. I like your approach to step outside your comfort zone to take this on. My sons had to educate me on who Mr Beast was too :)

Wow! Incredible story Paul Welch. I’ve watched the Mr Beast video and asked myself while watching what the logistics were in making such a video with the jet and in Southend. It’s amazing to get such an insightful perspective on what it took to make the happen. Amazing that your kids could explain to you how much Jimmy impacts them too. Let’s not forget that the video also featured the likes of other YouTubers that all combined have close to the number of subscribers that Beast has. Would love to know if your kids have heard about Train Effective on TikTok too? 😄 You should have a read of this Reed Duchscher, Samir Chaudry, Colin Rosenblum, Colin and Samir!
