IS THE MIND A TOOL FOR HEALING?

IS THE MIND A TOOL FOR HEALING?

Often times we put what could be the most effective healer of all on the back burner, our mind. That's why many health and wellness providers in the fields of functional, integrative and holistic medicine recommend mindfulness. Meditation, prayer and other forms of relaxation such as self-hypnosis can provide tremendous healing benefits.

Meditation can help make the connection between your mind and body making it a more effective tool for bettering your overall health and wellness. When quieting the mind, meditation can be a relaxing and regenerative practice, allowing better sleep and lowering stress levels.

Research shows the positive impacts of mindfulness practices. Meditation, creative visualization, prayer and hypnosis, self or guided by a professional can impact the human body in numerous ways. Least of which is less atrophy and tissue decline in the brain. Enough science based evidence exists to suggest we all should be spending more time in mindfulness practices daily.

Here are just a few health benefits of these practices on our daily lives:

1. Mindfulness Can Reduces Stress And Anxiety

Everyone reacts to stress and anxiety differently, ranging from a minor nuisance to a debilitating condition that makes day-to-day living difficult. Anxiety and stress experienced over a period of months or years can cause lasting damage to both the mind and body, making you feel fatigued, distracted, or irritable. Severe forms of stress, such as depression, may also result in an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, headaches, heartburn, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar levels.

2. Mindfulness Can Boost Your Immune System

A calm and relaxed mind will enable the immune system to work at it's optimal level. Plus, your natural defenses are called up like the soldiers in a well trained regiment to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic.

3. Mindfulness Can Lower Blood Pressure

There are conservative estimates that about one out of every three American adults have high blood pressure, or hypertension. Because high blood pressure is so common, it might be tempting to assume that it’s no big deal. But the truth is, high blood pressure can put you at risk for potentially life-threatening complications. So, some meditation and prayer can literally lower your blood pressure which will provide many other benefits as well
