Mindset Monday: Greatness is Waiting—Will You Chase It?

In manufactured home sales, there’s a greatness that everyone dreams about—closing more deals, earning higher commissions, becoming the go-to Professional Housing Consultant in their market. Yet, many are too afraid to chase it. Why? Because achieving greatness requires stepping out of the comfortable rhythm of “just enough” and pushing beyond the status quo.

The reality is that it takes the same amount of time at the office to be average as it does to be elite. The difference lies in effort, focus, and discipline. These are the qualities that separate the high performers from those who settle.

But let’s be honest—effort, focus, and discipline are hard to maintain when you don’t have a clear vision driving your actions. Without a well-defined vision, it’s all too easy to sell yourself short, staying stuck in a cycle of mediocrity.

Today, we’re tackling the fear of chasing greatness, the power of creating a vision, and how to break free from average to reach the elite.

Why Many Settle for Average

There’s a reason why so many housing consultants stop short of their potential. It’s comfortable to stay in the routine of doing just enough to meet quotas and avoid rocking the boat. Challenging the status quo takes courage—it requires putting in the work, risking failure, and facing the possibility of falling short. That fear holds people back.

But here’s the truth: settling for average doesn’t protect you from failure. It just ensures that you never reach your full potential. When you aim low, you miss the opportunity to grow, evolve, and achieve the greatness you’re capable of. Worse yet, it can lead to frustration, burnout, and a lack of fulfillment because deep down, you know you’re capable of more.

The Time Equation: Average vs. Elite

Here’s something to think about: the clock doesn’t care if you’re giving 50% or 100%. You’re already spending the time at the office—why not make it count? Becoming elite doesn’t require more hours, but it does demand more effort, focus, and discipline during the time you’re there.

  • Effort is about putting in the extra energy to follow up on every lead, build stronger relationships, and refine your sales process.
  • Focus is about eliminating distractions, staying locked in on your goals, and prioritizing high-impact activities over busy work.
  • Discipline is about showing up every day with the commitment to do what needs to be done, even when it’s uncomfortable.

The difference between average and elite isn’t time—it’s how you use it. Those who rise to the top are the ones who choose to spend their time intentionally, consistently working toward excellence.

The Missing Ingredient: A Clear Vision

Effort, focus, and discipline are critical, but they’re nearly impossible to maintain without a clear vision. A vision provides the “why” behind your actions, giving you a reason to push through challenges and stay committed to your goals.

If you’re feeling stuck, it’s worth asking: What am I working toward? Many consultants don’t chase greatness because they haven’t taken the time to define what it looks like for them. Without a vision, it’s easy to fall into the trap of aimless effort—working hard without a clear direction, which leads to frustration and burnout.

Creating a vision isn’t just about setting goals; it’s about building a picture of the life and career you want to create. A powerful vision is specific, inspiring, and actionable. It gives you a target to aim for and a reason to keep going when the path gets tough.

How to Break Free and Pursue Greatness

  1. Define Your Vision: Take the time to articulate what greatness looks like for you. Is it achieving a certain income? Becoming a trusted advisor in your market? Providing certain luxuries to you, your family, or those around you? Is it being able to help your community in a way that requires financial investment? Whatever it is, write it down and make it tangible.
  2. Set High Standards: Don’t settle for “good enough.” Challenge yourself to go beyond the minimum. High performers constantly raise the bar for themselves, striving to be better today than they were yesterday.
  3. Eliminate Excuses: Recognize that fear and excuses are holding you back. Be honest with yourself about what’s keeping you from chasing your vision and commit to overcoming those barriers.
  4. Take Consistent Action: Progress isn’t about huge leaps; it’s about taking small, intentional steps every day. Focus on consistent effort over time, and the results will follow.
  5. Seek Guidance and Support: Greatness isn’t a solo journey. Surround yourself with mentors, peers, and resources that can help you grow. Lean on others who have achieved what you’re striving for and learn from their experiences.

The Opportunity of a Lifetime

Greatness is within reach, but it’s up to you to go after it. The difference between staying average and becoming elite is a choice—a choice to push past procrastination and fear, define your vision, and take the actions necessary to bring it to life.
