Mobilize talent precisely where its needed

It feels like we hear about another company turning to layoffs as business needs change pretty regularly, yet these same companies have open job listings. Why do we have seemingly conflicting situations, and is there a better way of managing talent decisions in declining business units?

A rigorous career and talent mobility strategy may be the answer to shifting talent needs and planning more strategically. Learning to do it well can be a roadblock to progress. Shifting talent from one area of the business that is in decline to another area in need just makes sense: you retain your employees' legacy knowledge, and help them expand their skill sets and develop professionally. .

Using the Four R framework, you can fit multiple talent practices together to operate most effectively:

  • Recruit: Solutions like location strategies, diversity recruitment, focusing on the candidate experience, and enhancing recruiter skills are relatively quick to implement and result in an immediate impact.
  • Retain: A laser focus on making the workplace irresistible through actions such as supporting work-life needs, offering flexibility, and providing career growth opportunities can create trust and, in turn, helps retain people in the company.
  • Reskill: Hiring for potential and creating career pathways for people who may not yet have access to future-proof jobs is a strategic play that can bring about immediate and long-lasting impact.
  • Redesign: Revisiting job openings for a potential to redesign employment models (such as gig or project work), utilizing technology and automation, and using team-based models to support more meaningful and skills-centric work.

The Four R Framework is just one of the strategies that make up the Career and Talent Mobility Course. You will also learn about the environment and leadership mindset required to create a mobility strategy and hear from many companies that have successfully built a culture of internal growth and agility, enabling people to work there for decades and constantly reinvent themselves.
