MODA | Escape from concentration camps, brand decisions and GUTS – A must read (Video)

Friends,

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! I hope this finds you enjoying the season, working hard and prepared to kill it in 2018. Whether that means with business, being the best parent, starting a new company and working until you reach your goals – you have to have guts! This is going to be a bit of a personal post, but I believe it will bring you value. I’d love to hear your thoughts after you’ve read it.

If you have ever heard me speak, training a group or keynoting an event, you have most likely heard me talk about my grandfather…my hero for many reasons. He fought in WW2 against the Nazi’s as a Brigade Commander, immigrated to the US and was bigger than life. I thank God for being born into the family I was born into because I have a reference to having guts, strength and moving forward regardless of trials in life and circumstances. My grandfather taught me that a bad day was fighting Nazi’s; not a bad day at work. It’s good to keep this in mind when I feel like throwing a pity party – I always tell myself that I don’t have Nazi’s shooting at me and I’m not in a concentration camp. This might sound crazy to some of you, but it allows me to have the guts I need to keep going, raise my kids in this crazy world, be an incredible wife, build my business and be my best self every single day regardless of what anyone says. Having the right perspective is underrated – perspective is everything. Where you look, you’re going to go. If the world is just ‘hard’ and you’re constantly complaining, you’re never going to be the best you were created to be.

I have decided this is the year for GUTS. It’s a one-word year for me – something easy to remember and I want to inspire you to your own year of JUST DOING IT. Here is a quick snippet of my grandfather, Spiro Lukich, talking about having guts escaping from his third camp where the Germans had captured him. It’s a bit hard to hear and low quality from 1990, but turn up the volume and I’ll interpret below.

Take his advice – ‘You must have guts just to do it.’ He knew if he didn’t do anything he would die anyway, so he looked around and had enough guts to just do it, walk out and take a chance he could be killed. His perspective was that he had to live and if that meant jumping into a river to escape in the middle of the night, walking out of a camp or fighting for his life – he had guts. So 2018. Kill it. Have guts. Don’t wait to start the company Don’t wait to ask for that promotion. Don’t wait to start your family. Don’t wait to take the trip. Don’t wait to take that chance. Don’t wait to follow that dream. Don’t wait to share your story. Don’t wait to create your brand. Don't wait to say you're sorry. Don’t wait to tell people your value. Don’t wait. Have guts. Gary Vaynerchuck is a marketing mogul I enjoy listening to and learning from. He often talks of regret and tells people to go visit a home where old people are – he talks about finding people who live with regret of NOT doing. He has guts.

Have GUTS. I don’t care what people think about me – especially those that don’t know me. It’s time to live with purpose, know who you are, know why you’re here, have a plan, share your story and build your brand so that your life is well lived. When I’m 99, I want to look around and think, I did it…I built my family and was the best mom I could be, I shared the Lord with anyone who would listen, I loved everyone regardless of what they have done or what they believe, I built a company that helped businesses and individuals be the best they were created to be, I spoke the truth, didn’t give advice based upon opinion, encouraged and motivated, built brands and helped people to be appreciated for the value they have in knowing they were created for a purpose. I have lived some fire filled trials, but I had guts through them and continue to do so.

Let’s crush 2018 – write down your goals and get started. I want to help, my team wants to help – business or individual, let’s get started today.

Happy New Year!

Mila
