How can first responders, railways, and utilities enhance operations with mission-critical networks?
More and more public sector organizations, such as police, firefighters, ambulance, and rescue services, as well as utilities and railways, are modernizing their existing mobile communication networks to be able to respond to the requirements of modern times and reap the benefits of digitalization. They need to switch from narrowband to 3GPP broadband technologies that enhance the network’s reliability and capabilities, maximize its resilience, and improve response times.

Why are multi-operator core networks the right path to the future of railway communications?
In the coming years, rail companies in Europe are expected to modernize their communication networks based on the new Future Railway Mobile Communications System (FRMCS) standard. In addition to the dedicated bands in 900 MHz and 1900 MHz allocated exclusively for railway use in Europe, the second edition of FRMCS will also consider using mobile network operator bands.
Why do railway infrastructure managers and mobile network operators need to take advantage of the Multi-Operator Core Networks architecture to share usage of their radio access networks? Find out in the blog MOCN - a highly effective path to FRMCS.

The importance of smart grids – keeping the power always on
If there is one thing modern society relies on, it’s electricity. With multiple challenges, such as economic forces, cybersecurity threats, or natural disasters, maintaining a constant flow of power is a complex task. To keep the power always on, utility companies have to turn to digitalization and power grid modernization.
In this Smart Grid paper, intended for the European market, learn about the components of digital power grids and how mission-critical wireless networks transform power grid management and delivery.
The case: modernizing electric grid services with a private LTE network
The National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC) broadened coverage and capacity for digital electric grid with a private LTE network built on Ericsson radio, core, and network management technologies to support a next-generation smart grid for NRTC’s members. The network’s viability was validated in a trial with West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Corp. It demonstrated the value of private LTE for smart grid use cases such as SCADA, push-to-talk, fixed wireless access, and narrow-band IoT.
