Momentum Mondays

Momentum Mondays

Your emotional and mental state have a huge impact on momentum. So, there may be some things that do not deliver the most direct impact but are a better choice because their indirect impact by starting or increasing momentum have the greatest net benefit.

Personally, I take Sundays off. Like completely, religiously off. I delete social media from my phone, don’t check email, don’t answer business texts, and leave my laptop in my office. I go to church, take my cheat day and eat anything I want after lunch, watch a ton of Netflix, and play games on my phone. The rest is good, and it allows me to get back to business with renewed energy and focus, but I essentially let go of my personal momentum for an entire day, and therefore need to restart things a bit on Mondays. So for me, the primary goal on Monday is to create momentum that will make Tuesday-Saturday super productive. I certainly still get productive things done, but the king goal of the day is to create momentum. Here’s what I do:

  1. Healthy breakfast. Sometimes I’ve taken such a ridiculous cheat day on Sunday that I’m not interested in breakfast on Monday morning. I do it anyway and force my body to get back into my routine.
  2. Easy task list. This is my most important Momentum Monday strategy. I look at my week’s goals and task lists and pick easy ones. Usually 3-6 of them depending on the size of the tasks. I call it creating a “dopamine machine”. Crossing those things off of the task list makes me feel like a winner and puts me in a good mindset for the rest of the week.
  3. No or little sales work. Not everyone reading this deals with sales, but everyone deals with regular “losses” in a certain area. My sales efforts get a net return for sure, but the return is built on a pile of “no’s” and “laters”. Those aren’t great for getting into a momentum-mindset,, so even though sales is one of the most important things I do, I typically do very little sales work on Mondays.

There may very well be a different routine that works better for you. Having and executing a strategy is what is really important.
