The Moon or Mars.....

The Moon or Mars.....

Except from my daily message to the team sent a couple of weeks ago....

"Innovation is the only way to win." - Steve Jobs

Sometimes when you're in the moment, you don't realize that you are living through an amazing era. The pace of innovation during our time on this planet is special. Yesterday, when we were in the backyard, I looked up into the sky. There was a plane so high up in altitude that the body of the aircraft was white in color with bright white contrails flowing behind. I looked over at Patty and said, "imagine what the Wright Brothers would think". In 117 years since that 12 second 120 foot flight that was a few feet above the sandy beaches of Kitty Hawk, it is now absolutely normal to look into the sky, and not think twice about seeing a jet airplane flying with several hundred people at 38,000 feet above the Earth, in 1903 it would have been fantastical.

Several amazing events have happened in just the last decade, and we are now in the "accelerated" phase of innovation, where everything seems to move incredibly fast. Nasa recently announced that SpaceX was awarded a $2.89B milestone based contract to land humans back on the moon. SpaceX has achieved what others thought was impossible. Taking off and landing the same rocket, thus making the expense of space manageable by the reuse of rockets. This morning the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter took flight above the martian terrain - controlled flight on another planet and just 117 years from that December day in North Carolina.

After my comment about the Wright Brothers to Patty, I made another one "Imagine when it will be absolutely normal in 117 years from now when we will have daily flights departing for a Space Station, the Moon or Mars." Truly a remarkable time to be alive in this moment in history, and to experience these tremendous leaps in innovation and thinking.

Just as we reach for space, medicine is also accelerating faster than ever in human history. In 30 short years advances in surgery have enabled people to return to life faster, once deadly diseases are now healed, and what we take for granted today was once considered fantastical. We are heading into an accelerated phase of medical innovation and we at Potrero are at the absolute tip of the spear team. You are among the pioneers here in this new frontier. The explorers who will discover the new that one day will be normal, but today is fantastical. Today as you start your day, think about how magical your experience is here at Potrero. Reflect on the challenges, the failures, the hurdles, the limiters, and how you overcame them. Realize the quote from Steve Jobs above - the only way to win is innovation!

Pioneers, have a wonderful day!!

ALWAYS FORWARD!!!!!

Indeed Joe Urban, obstacles are provided as challenges to gage our ability to rise up as humans. Some are harder than others. Some, we go around..under…or train to overcome. All effort requires innovation and commitment to see the goal on the other side of the obstical. And then archive the impossible!

This is awesome!! So many great lessons can be learned from StarWars and George Lucas. You and your team are creators and innovators, making this world a better place for patient outcomes! “Do or Do not, there is no Try”

In 1954, Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile, something said even by experts to be IMPOSSIBLE. Just 46 days Bannister’s feat, John Landy, an Australian runner, not only broke the barrier again, with a time of 3 minutes 58 seconds. Then, just a year later, three runners broke the four-minute barrier in a single race. Over the last half century, more than a thousand runners have conquered a barrier that had once been considered hopelessly out of reach. IT IS ALL MINDSET
