The 4 Most Effective Strategies for Stress Management

The 4 Most Effective Strategies for Stress Management

As business leaders and entrepreneurs, our lives are extremely hectic. Stress is inevitable and has become a close friend of ours and an accepted part of all of our lives.

I recently came across an article from Fortune (you can read it here) on the most effective strategies of business leaders for stress management and it caused me to reflect my approach to managing my day-to-day stress (because trust me, I have a lot of it). However, I’ve learned firsthand that when effectively handled, stress can be minimized significantly.

Check out my favorite methods for managing stress below:

Don’t ignore it

Talking from experience, hiding from the causes of your stress will only amplify your anxiety and potentially debilitate you from accomplishing what you need to. Make a list, set priorities, (I recommend putting the most difficult task, first), and get to work! Even slight progress on a daunting undertaking will provide you much-needed relief.

Plan ahead

I cannot emphasize the importance of planning enough. Wake up early, review your list of everything you need to accomplish that day and get organized. Having a clear idea of your plan-of-action will calm your anxiety and allow you to work with efficiency and focus when you step into your office.

Move to a quiet place

As the President of my company, I have an open-door policy to make sure my staff knows they can come to me with anything; however, the somewhat constant influx of people through my office doors can get really overwhelming at times.

When I have a big project that needs my laser-focused attention, I find a quiet space away from the office that allows me to work without distractions. This way, I can get my biggest priority task complete (and often quicker than anticipated), allowing me to go back to work feeling refreshed.

Get to know your stress triggers

Get familiar with what actions or tasks typically cause you to feel stressed and identify coping strategies that have worked successfully for you in the past. When you know your ‘triggers’ you can get in front of your stress and take the necessary steps to calm yourself down.

Additionally, it’s so important to keep your stress in check as your energy and mindset is contagious. Team members that work closely together can easily pick-up on each other’s mental and emotional states and an overwhelmed or stressed-out attitude can significantly impact your workplace environment negatively.

Stress is inevitable in every area of our lives and simply wishing it away will only leave us anxious and disappointed. Identify what situations cause you to feel stressed, find coping strategies that work for you, and implement them!
