The most important room!
Bathroom is a place that you go and not talk about it.
Not anymore !
Two decades back bathrooms were not even part of the house. They were constructed far away from the house at the end of the plot where it could never be seen . Vastu shastraalso considers bathrooms to be a place of negative energy and stops us from having pooja room, kannimoola or ktichen anyway near.
Now we surely need attached bedrooms and when you want to join your kids to a good school or decide on the hotel for a business trip, if not all most of us do check the cleanliness of the bathroom first.
It’s where you start and finish each day. You wake up, use the toilet, wash your hands, take a shower, brush your teeth, style your hair, and are out the door. Before going to bed, you relieve yourself, wash your hands, brush your teeth, remove makeup or wash your face, apply any creams or moisturizers, and are then ready for bed. The average person will spend about 1.5 years of his or her lifetime in the bathroom.
It’s the ultimate judgment zone. Anyone entering your home is probably going to use your bathroom at some point. If there are urine stains on the toilet seat, random stray hairs everywhere, toothpaste in the sink, brown marks surrounding the bowl, and no soap in the dispenser, your friends, family, and any guests visiting your home will think you’re gross. And they’ll be right.
It’s also a judgment free zone. You don’t have to worry about what you’re wearing, how you look, and can take as much time reading the paper or doing anything else that you want in the bathroom as long as there’s no one else waiting to use it after you.
It sets the tone for the rest of your home. Do you have candles, artwork, and matching towels on display or only old newspapers out and a few rolls of toilet paper sitting on the counter? This isn’t the place to take any décor shortcuts.
It’s where inspiration strikes. Get your best ideas in the shower? Enough said.
It offers solitude and serves as a great hiding spot. If you want to take a break from anyone or anything, this is the place to go. The majority of people know better than to bother someone using the bathroom. You’re safe as long as the door is locked.
It’s a good place to decompress. If you had a bad day or just want to disconnect from the world for a little while, there may be no better way than taking a long bath or hot shower.
Try not being able to use it… You don’t realize the importance of your bathroom until you really need to use it and someone else is already in there or there’s a temporary plumbing issue.
Sometimes ago, one of the sanitary ware companies, had this tag line ‘From bathrooms to Glamourrooms’ which marked a switch in the perception of bathrooms in a home. Increased number of sanitary products in market stabilised this concept; in fact, it is the room-bathroom that requires relentless care among that of all the spaces in your home.
It’s never been this easy to create a bathroom of your dreams. If a complete renovation does not fit your budget, you could go for partial changes like painting the walls or replacing an old showerhead with a hi-tech version, adding lights, fancy mirrors, new cabinets for interesting towel racks etc. Here is some roadmaps to get start with your home bathrooms.
Advice on Working with Professionals
- The workmanship of the plumber plays a very important role. How much ever high tech product you use,if the plumbing line are faulty you surely are gone to loose your peace of mind. Some products might be even too high tech for the plumber to understand. Choose plumbers if you know that they have earlier worked with such products or hire a trusted firm to do the work so that you can be sure .
- Well, if yours looks like an out dated box, get a consult with a designer initially who can provide the best solution within your budget. You can go with 2D plan layouts which help us in planning the space accordingly giving the appropriate area, general dimensions, occupants’ needs, life style and personal preferences etc. An expert plan always depicts the installation of ventilator or air/ window fan for the healthier air circulation inside the bathroom.
Moisture Proof Vanity
The vanity is the focal point of most bathrooms. You can choose premade vanities which are much less pricey than custom made designs. But make sure they are waterproof. Pay attention to the size of vanities while selection. An interior designer can help you with that. For small bathrooms, maximize storage with a cabinet featuring plenty of drawers and shelves. Vanities made of PVC foam board will last much longer and are water proof.
Colour codes
Although white is a non- controversial scheme for bathroom, we can use beige, blue, bronze, copper, deep grey, light pink and gold – pop of colours to make the space more trendy. A monochromic scheme is ideal for small bathrooms.
Choosing bathroom flooring is far different from choosing flooring in other parts of the house. Water is prevalent in bathrooms and it will quickly ruin the wrong flooring. With that in consideration, from best to worst, your floor covering options for the bathroom: Tile is always one of your best choices for bathroom floors. Large format ceramic and porcelain, vinyl tiles have endless design options, it offers a clean and classic look that’s also extremely durable, waterproof and stain- resistant. It’s always advice to choose anti –skip/ slip –resistant tiles for bathroom floors. Since vitrified tiles are available in various anti-slip finishes, it can be used for bathroom as well.
Recreate your bathroom by introducing some stylish wall tiles for the year. Varied patterns of stripes, abstracts, fabric structures, geometric and digital wall tiles are available in shops nowdays .That will turn your bathroom to a mini sanctuary or home spa!
Lighting
When transforming a bathroom with lighting, it is necessary to take expert advice to avoid casting unnecessary shadows. Depending on the overall look of the bathroom, you can either go for glamorous chandeliers or antique pendant lights. As in any space, recessed lighting can highlight desired areas and create a relaxing ambience. A crisp white light is perfect for the mirror, if any.
Getting trendy
Indulge yourself in a new shower system, from aerated water-saving sprays to gentle rainfall gives some delightful shower experience to you. Simply we can make the changes by replacing the old towel bars for new ones or a set of robe hooks, add a shelf above the toilet for storage, or ditch the slippery old rug for the updated look of a teak floor mat etc. Help make your bathroom safer and promote the independence of your loved ones with lovely benches and grab bars for old age people- specifically designed to complement your bathroom. In addition to choosing from a one piece or two piece toilet and low-flow models, go with commodes which is adjustable in heights, heated seats, low noise flushing, open and close sensors, built –in deodorizes, self -cleaning models etc. Wall mounted WC occupies minimal space ; hence it is ideal for small bathrooms where you find floor mounted WC which is more economical . According to Vastu, you can place the WC in south, west or south-west as well.
Maintaining you bathroom clean ,tidy and welcoming is no easy job.But it is surely worth the effort you put in because it surely is the most important room in your home.

6yVery nicely written article and brought up the nuances of societal judgement. It's really true. If one reads your article ,he or she is going to think and care about it,which will see to the Swatch at home first and then Swatch Bharath automatically takes on. A good article of awareness. Best regards. I am sharing it for the benefit of many!!!
