Celebrate Mother's Day with PHI: Honor the Mothers in Your Life

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at PHI! Today is a day to celebrate the mothers and women in our lives. What better way to do that than by making sure that those choosing motherhood have full access to the healthcare, services and education that makes healthy pregnancies and thriving families possible?

My mother would have been 108 this May, and in her honor I'll be donating $108 in her name. Join me in celebrating the inspiring mothers in your life with a donation to PHI, and we'll send them a personalized note of thanks. 

SisterSong defines Reproductive Justice as the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities. We've seen an erosion of these rights across the country. Black women experience maternal mortality rates more than twice those of white women. Restrictions on life-saving reproductive healthcare are putting the lives of women and girls in danger. Long-term change is needed to improve the support systems—including pre-conception and maternity care, paid maternity leave, support for early child development and affordable child care—that families need to truly thrive.

Increasing Access to Contraception & Reproductive Care

PHI's Access Bridge is working to ensure women can obtain contraception and other basic legal reproductive health services in Emergency Departments, especially in the 24 states with abortion restrictions. By using the established infrastructure of EDs, this work is expanding access to the reproductive care women need. Since 2006, PHI has worked alongside CDPH to conduct a statewide review of pregnancy-related deaths through a health equity lens, to make actionable data-informed recommendations for preventing pregnancy-related deaths and optimizing maternal health outcomes and experiences equitably for all pregnant and birthing people. Advocating for Gender Justice Around the World

PHI's Rise Up builds power with women, girls, and their allies by providing training, funding, and connection to a global network of advocates for gender justice—and it's working. In a recent survey, over 80% of Rise Up leaders said the program increased their confidence in advocating for change. In 2022 alone, Rise Up leaders helped to pass 8 laws, policies or programs for gender justice that impact 3 million people—advancing girl-centered advocacy, realizing greater economic equity across the globe, and providing greater protections for trans communities. Donate to Rise Up →
