Move over time, there’s a new currency in town
The “time is money” idiom needs a makeover.
Yes, there is still a limited amount of time. We still “only” have 24 hours in a day, 7–9 of which *should* be allocated for sleep (more if you’re a competitive athlete).
Odds are, however, that right now, you have more time on your hands than you did a few months ago.
Long gone are the commutes and traveling times in general. If you are unemployed, in-between entrepreneurial initiatives, on a forced school/education hiatus, had travel plans abruptly cancelled, or working from home, you have more time.
How is your energy, though?
Have your productivity, your creativity and your motivation skyrocketed?
If your answer is yes, FANTASTIC. Keep doing what you’re doing and share it with us so that we can learn.
If you said no, know that you are not alone, and that there is a solution to your predicament: stop managing your time, and start managing your energy.
We live in a world where the words “busy” and “hustling” have become glorified, badges of honor. It doesn’t matter what or why you’re doing something — as long as you’re doing it. We confuse motion with progress.
Energy management is a lot simpler than you’d imagine, and it is precisely the simplicity of it what makes us take it for granted.
In the era of biohacking, shortcuts and instant gratification, it is easy to forget, or rather neglect, the fundamentals. We put our hopes in the next pill, the next gadget, the next technology. Outside in instead of inside out.
And we forget that clichés exist because they are (mostly) true:
- We are what we eat: physically, mentally and emotionally
- Sleep is the fountain of youth
- Our bodies are designed to move constantly
- The only thing we can control is our mind
- The breath is the steering wheel of our nervous system
- The quality of our relationships is the number one predictor of longevity
Nutrition — Sleep — Movement — Mindset — Breath — Human Connection.
Master those, and you will master your energy, and with that, your life.
Imagine what it would be like to produce at 100% for 5 hours, vs. operating at 60% or even 40% for 10.
Which would you prefer?
Here are some tips — ONE thing in each category — that you can implement today, to start seeing improvements in your energy. More energy = more output = greater life.
- Nutrition: leave at least 13 hours between dinner and break-fast
- Sleep: implement a digital sunset (zero devices) at least an hour before bed
- Movement: do 5 squats every time you go to the bathroom
- Breath: breathe exclusively through your nose, tape your mouth during sleep if you have to
- Relationships: say I love you at least once a day (saying it to yourself absolutely counts!)
Which one will you try first? Let me know in the comments!

4yFor me .. I already start the path of change which includes what you said in your amazing post, that reminds me of a book I read lately “switch” : Direct the rider Motivate the elephant Shape the path... Thanks for the Nice post and as a share for share I suggest you read that book if you didn’t yet you’ll like it.
This is great. I've noticed that one of the problems with "goal setting" is that it often assumes energy and focus are a constant. This is more realistic perspective.
