Mowing Is My Favorite Thing!

Yeah, Right.

When our home was built in 1954, the builder put a basement under it. In most areas of the country, that would be digging a big hole then building a foundation.

Not here. We live in north Alabama. Here, if you wanted a basement in 1954, you found a low spot. You built the basement, then the house on top. When you were all done, you filled in around the basement.

That’s the reason mowing is my favorite thing.

Our yard has NEVER been flat, and it will NEVER be smooth. I push mow my lawn. It’s just too rough and slanted to use a rider. I would jar my kidneys loose. No amount of fertilizing and rolling has ever produced a smooth surface. It was pretty good a few years ago, but we had a tornado that dropped trees all over it. End of smooth yard, again.

When I mow, I walk at the pace my self-propelled mower wants to go. My job is to keep things pointed in a straight line and not break my ankle on any of the rough spots. I just take one step at a time till I get the job done.

Once it’s done, it doesn’t STAY done. It grows so I have to do it again. If it gets a little long, my dog lets me know. When he goes outside to take care of things and finds the grass tall enough to tickle his belly, he gives me this “look” back over his shoulder.

What in the world does this have to do with network marketing?

Mowing is a hot, unpleasant, tiring job that simple has to be done regularly unless you like living in a nature preserve. It’s got to be done over and over just to maintain things. When the maintenance is done, you can do other things to make progress.

Prospecting is the mowing of any home-based business.

When you don’t prospect, the problems begin to grow. If you prospect irregularly, your business will not succeed. The weeds will take over and you’ll be deep in them. The longer you go without prospecting, the harder it will be to do. You can’t push a mower through six inches of grass and you won’t feel like picking up the phone or writing a note if you haven’t done it for a week.

Prospecting is painful for many network marketers, so they put it off. There’s no sense in being told NO if you can avoid it. Except your business will fail.

I wrote this after mowing this morning. It was getting pretty hot, but not as bad as some days. When you live in the south, you pick your spots for yard work. I try not to end up like this.
